Frankie Benny's New York Italian Restaurant Bar Oxford

Having had a great day at Crufts, Birmingham, my girlfriend I thought this would be a nice place to book halfway on our journey home. We arrived at 19:10, having reserved our table for 19:15 (THIS WAS BOOKED ON MARCH 2ND, plenty of time...to scrub the tables or even ONE table you’d think. We walked through the door we were welcomed by a front of house manager (don’t know his name, he had short blonde hair). He said: ‘ I haven’t got a booth.’ I said: ‘That’s okay.’ His next response was: ‘I don’t have any tables’ to which I straight away: ‘we booked nearly two weeks ago..’ I could sense his panic as if he’d seen a ghost. booked a table for 4 watches (mich 3 children) and was set by one of the manager (very nicer man). we were eating about 10 minutes at the table when he came and took our drink order. we were ready to order everything that way. our drinks and eating at the same time. after 10 minutes our drinks had not arrived yet and were not on the bar waiting to be brought to our table. the bartender has just plastic bags on the bar above (oxford playing tonight) and not really much more. about 5 minutes later, our food was on the luke that waited to come out, and we had not yet our drinks. I see the manager rushes over to the bar where he made our drinks, and brought them to our table and our eating immed...

Arrived and foot pump sanitiser empty. Looked around for more none available. None of the servers in masks (understand its optional in England now but not pleasant). Ordered the loaded potato skins starter and a drink. Meal arrived less than 4 mins later and before...drinks so clearly not fresh. Waited for drink. Outer potato skins tasted burnt but actual potato base was raw, cheese top was unpleasant and no chives. Have had this in plenty of other f&b around the UK so normally know what I'm getting and it's fine, not haute cuisine but tasty enough. This was inedible. Pushed to one side after a few bites. Went here for a meal on Sunday Evening Booked via the website and confirmed a special event Receive food with burnt bits from previous cooking. The grill would have benefited from a clean.. Service was at best ok To top it all, the waiter was...hanging round for a tip.. Best tip they can have is ‘deliver good service, provide what is asked for, make the experience positive, you’ll get a tip!’

We had a great night out. The atmosphere was nice and the food was very good. What made a particular difference was the service. Our waiter Coco was brilliant. We never had to wait or make an effort to order our food and drink. He...was always on hand and checking on us. All the kids enjoyed our visit and the adults as well. Highly recommended.
