We visited Le Refuge upon reading about it on TripAdvisor. Place was packed with hikers and locals: so good atmosphere. The dishes were mainly meat and local food, with a few vegetarian options. No kids menu. Our noodles were so overcooked that they could have...made a pudding from it and the tomato sauce was basically straight out of a tin. The service was one poor women for about customers so it took a while until everyone got their meals. All of this for quite high prices (pot of noodles with veal Euro simple salad for Euro etc Should you be in the vicinity, its ok to go but don’t drive for minutes from Porto Vecchio for a „dining experience“.
This is what undeserved good reviews on Trip Advisor do: they make owners and staff feel entitled to provide poor service, worse food and over charge guests. Terrible staff and service: they are rude, inefficient and smug. Terrible food: lazy, cheap as chips (thin, tasteless...veg soup; pasta with tinned tomatoes thrown over the top; inedible pudding). Over charging: they arrogantly stock one digestif, a petrol fumed Corsican whisky then charge Don't stay here or eat here if you can avoid it. There are chambres d'hotes in L'Ospedale, minutes walk away.
went hiking and stopped at this place for lunch, We did not reserve as we were not expecting that much people in such a remote location. We were lucky to still get a table for as it seemed the entire place was reserved. It...took ages to get a drink, again ages before someone wondered if they already gave us a menu (no not yet). Food ultimately got ordered and came. I got a pasta with a kind of stewed meat. Large quantity. Reasonable taste. took ages again to get the bill and to get eh change.
Went on a recent family trip and arrived with high hopes. Restaurant was pretty full with locals and hikers. Nice service and simple, straightforward menu. Unfortunately our pasta was so overcooked that it tasted more like pudding (i.e. the opposite end to al dente). This...for Euro was not worth the price, nor the trip. From Porto Vecchio it's about drive up into the mountains with some beautiful scenery along the way. When we arrived we were greeted by the friendly staff and they explained the menu to us. I opted for the entrocote and my wife the aubergine...dish. Both were were tasty, the steak was phenomenal! Would definitely recommend this restaurant
We decided to go up to the mountains from the coast for an evening meal. The roads are slow but beautiful. At the top this rustic restaurant was extremely welcoming, with the friendliest service we have had in Corsica. Food was very good, we had...both the pasta and the roast piglet and enjoyed them immensely. Well worth the drive.
