There are several Alsur cafes in Barcelona, ours was in the Gothic Quarter (I think). It's youthful, energetic, but the staff is very friendly and caters to a charming middle-aged couple. The thick chocolate drink is available elsewhere but this...was the best we enjoyed. There are light snacks, cakes and larger meals. Good thing it's worth finding a table. Although we didn't attend, the bar looks well stocked!
So we were in town for 4 days and ate here 3 times. The food is amazing and they have great options! Our kids loved the sofas that you can eat on and the angel wings on the wall. I had the banana bread pancakes and OMG the cream cheese on top was delish! My husband had pulled the pork rooster twice! You have to go! They also have kombucha!
Women who was serving us was really rude, ignoring clients, worst customer experience ever. Treating tourists very badly because they don’t speak Spanish, doesn’t do any effort. Serves gin tonic without gin. Is annoyed when asked for gin in gin tonic.
This was the second time we had visited cafe Alsur this week. The first time we thought the food was great, hence why we returned! Sadly, today the food was average and one of our party had her phone pick pocketed while it was placed...on the table. We were sitting inside the restaurant (not on a terrace) and a beggar entered the establishment. She placed a piece of paper on the table and in a slip of hand stole the iPhone sitting on the table. We realised approximately 10 minutes after leaving the cafe. When we returned the staff told us this was a common occurrence in cafes of Barcelona, however, they were not liable as they had a small sign at the cash register warning customers to be wary of thieves. The staff were very unsympathetic and rude when we shared our concerns. To add insult to injury we were charged an additional 50c for milk with our tea and there were a number of errors to what we ordered, which we would have happily overlooked had the above not occurred. You assume you can relax and feel safe while sitting inside a restaurant with a closed door, however, no attempts were made by staff to remove or stop such people from entering their establishment. When reporting the incident to the police they once again confirmed this was a very common tactic used by pick pocketers. BEWARE!
Modern, cool, cozy place especially for wintertime. Greatest pancakes and juices. Friendly stuff as well!
I was looking for a quick bite to eat and stumbled upon this place. Nice, trendy looking bar/cafe. The waiters were really friendly despite my lack of spanish. I had a very nice glass of rose (recommended by the waiter) and a little selection of...guacamole, beetroot humous and lemon feta with olive bread. All was very fresh and very tasty. It seemed to be the little dishes were made of bamboo but the waiter didn't know. A little on the expensive side but i expected it from a place like this. I visited the toilets before leaving and that was not a great experience. It is so HOT in there, unbelievable. But I was only there very quickly so not the end of the world.
Around 5 pm the place was completely empty. Living nearby, we wanted to give it a try since the atmosphere seemed okay whenever we walked by (thats why 2 stars given, not one.. We sat down, we were waiting a bit (5 minutes or so)...for the waiter no one came. My partner went to the bar asking if there is service or we need to order at the bar. They said there is a service, and the kitchen was open and he came back with the menu. At the table we were choosing our food, waiting, waiting waiting...no one came for ca 15 minutes (they were clearly aware that there are costumers in the restaurant). So we decided to leave. The food might be great but we were not given the chance to try.
