I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. From what I understood, there was some history behind it. Although, our server didn’t tell us anything about the restaurant and I forgot to ask. We ordered a few rounds of drinks. Their cocktails are amazing! I love the passionfruit one, with tequila. I forgot what it was called. The octopus was amazing, tasted better than most places that serve octopus. The lamb was very delicious and cooked perfectly. I honestly did not like the branzino dish at all. The saffron sauce was amazing but the fishiness of the dish items overpowered it. I love seafood where the sauce blends really well with the seafood. Visited twice in the past 2 months and enjoyed both times. One was during Winter Restaurant Week and I have to say it’s the best deal you could get. Extensive menu, top quality food, amazing cocktail. Service and atmosphere was unmatched as well. Duck breast, rack of lamb, and NY strip steak were all very good. I love the duck breast and I would come back again and again for it. The wagyu ribs was the only dish that I didn’t enjoy that much, it was a bit too rich and fat for my taste. We have eaten at 1789 numerous times for special events over the last 40 years and have never been disappointed until last week. We were there one month ago and enjoyed a superb meal which included the escargot appetizer which I was very much looking forward to having again. To my chagrin it was a different dish in which the escargot were scant and hard to find. The pork chop was excessively fatty. My suspicions were confirmed when I discovered the presence of a new chef. My wife had a lovely meal so all was not lost.

1789 was fantastic. Probably one of the best restaurants I've been to. Service was exquisite, the meal was perfectly executed. Highly recommend the scallops or octopus as a starter. Ask to order the risotto as a second course, you won't be disappointed. The rack of lamb was cooked perfectly (as was the NY strip) and was excellent. So I went here for restaurant week and wow what a pick! This place is so good! It's a perfect date night, friends night etc. Ambiance is cute and romantic, dimly lit and cozy. The food? No complaints beginning to end. We got steak, halibut and the short rib and literally all of us were so satisfied. Food super flavorful. And a cute place to get good food. Service was on point too.

Had food gras, which was new to their menu and it was excellent. Had lamb chops for my entre. Quite disappointing. Dry, thin, unexceptional in taste. My wife had a better meal, but she, too, was not wowed by the experience. Ambiance is lovely, wait staff was fine. Better meals to be had in greater DC for the price.

We had a private event and everything was spectacularly good. Kudos to the professional service. Outstanding service staff. The food was so delicious. All complimented the meal. Everything, and I cannot thank the entire state that made our event so memorable and lovely, was excellent. Highly recommend.
