1789 Restaurant Lounge

Do not pass this by! Not easily spotted if wandering Montpellier streets aimlessly looking for a meal. If you had done your research you would already know how great this eating experience is - we had not but we struck so lucky. Restaurant 1789 tucked away behind the main city hall in a small square, on the corner of a small side ‘impasse’ alleyway. Looked like a classy street-side cafe and as Saturday lunchtime was slipping away - they eat early - we went in and were seated at a table behind clear awnings almost on the street. Wow! Tucked away of one of the many delightful plazas in Montpellier is this gem. Sit inside to enjoy vaulted roofs and outside to people watch, you cannot go wrong. I had the warm local vegetable salad and truffles, followed by the white fish with veggies and more truffles. The chef's complimentary appetizer and desert (including some limoncello) were the perfect beginning and end. This is an excellent French restaurant with a truffle accent with great prices, engaging atmosphere and attentive staff. Be sure to visit if you are in Montpellier!!

The restaurant opened a couple month ago --- our first visit was a smashing hit;The food was incredible, Truffels added just as it should be made the plates a star kitchen experience. The setting in a gothic environment added to our pleasure and to top it the personnel was professional, efficient and friendly. The prices are rfeasonable for the food you get and they have an affordable wine list.As far as I am concerned we have a new top chef - top place in the city

We were walking around the old town when we came across this amazing little place to stop and eat. You can sit outside or in an amazing little vaulted room. The staff were happy to accommodate a table of 6 and we had a very nice meal along with a glass of very nice Red. The fish was superb as was the risotto. Service was OK but food quality average. The table had a romantic setup which was nice but other than that no particular attention given to our anniversary.
