1888 Restaurant Bar

We stayed in the hotel just prior to Christmas and not only was the hotel everything we wanted but its location and accessibility to other interesting towns worth visiting, was excellent. We had a very spacious room with sitting area and if I had to be nitpicking the only fault I'd find would be the facilities in the bathroom which was dated and a bit ordinary. However, the lovely room and friendliness of the staff and management more than compensated. It's overlooking a little park just outside ( entirely walkable) the town centre. The restaurant is very good and the breakfasts provide a good range of foods. A short train ride takes you to the gorgeous town of Ruhpolding which is an absolute must if staying in the area. All in all, a great hotel, friendly staff, good value and THE place to stay in Traunstein.

Ordered avocado toast with tomatoes and crab. Very disappointed. Ordinary brown bread, old mashed avocado, tasteless tomatoes and smelly crab. Where's the fresh food? Partners buttermilk pancakes were tough and dry. Eggs cooked too hard.

Superb food in a modern version of Old World wood-paneled dining, candles flickering, hot baskets of bread and excellent wine. The soup and salads alone would make a great dinner but the entrees are very, very good as well.
