We went here after reading the reviews. The restaurant is in a fantastic location and the staircase is in very good condition, solid and sturdy so I'm thinking it's been re-built since some of the earlier reviews. It is only a short walk up the stairs so don't be put off by that! We had some yummy soup and jacket potatoes and followed up with one apple strudel and one topfenstrudel. Both were ok. Certainly not bad but definitely not amazing. They seemed like they'd been heated in the microwave as the pastry wasn't flaky or crisp. I also like strudel more heavily spiced. The custard was yummy though and tasted home made. We haven't had any other strudel in Austria but I'm sure there must be better! I make a better strudel back home in Australia! Staff were great, prompt service and reasonable prices hence the 4 star rating (plus the location helps!). So worth a visit if you are at the reservoir but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here for strudel. Unless we were there on an off day???

Our visit here took place right at the end of the season and as a consequence it was very quiet but nonetheless the open fire and wooden interior gave it a special atmosphere for an Autumn visit. The service was excellent and in very good English (although I had tried to converse in German). We had soup and strudel and both were enjoyable. This was the last day of a stay in Mayrhofen and this was a valley we hadn't explored up to this point. It's a very interesting location with a dam 186m (610ft) high, something not too clear from photographs or, to be honest, even when you're there as everything else is also on a grand scale. The restaurant is 100 steps above the dam and the views are spectacular. As well as indoor seating there are terraces and even tables on the roof - a superb place to relax.Only rated as very good as a reflection on the reviewer's ability to rate food, our personal experience was excellent.

Quite a steep climb up the stairway clinging to the side of the cliff or alternatively you can walk further along the road and then turn up the hill to the restaurant. The menu caters for all tastes and provides everything from a coffee to a light snack or a three course meal. All meals are freshly prepared and the strudle is excellent! Tables available outside with views over the reservoir, the mountains and down the valley, or inside with more limited views but near a log fire for cooler days.

Situated 1,900m above sea level overlooking the Zillergrund reservoir, this is a must visit if you are in Maryhofen. Great food, great atmosphere, fantastic views. Truly memorable. There's a lot of steps to climb but worth it. Like stepping back in time Alpen style.
