Afan Tavern At The Jersey Arms

Booked a table for 6.45pm for 3 people, arrived at 6.48pm (I know we were 3 mins late). As soon as we walked through the door the waitress said that we would have to order straight away as they had a large table coming in at 7pm. We were shown to our table where the waitress asked for our drinks order which we gave. Over the next 9 minutes the waitress came over 3 times to ask if we were ready to order, we weren’t ready to order by this time obviously as we had only sat down 9 minutes before hand. Then she came over again to tell us if we didn’t order now there would be over an hour wait for food. Last year 2022 did the group Christmas Dinner, it was £15 each and superb. The chef made an effort, the brussels even had a sweet glaze. The place was buzzing then. This year, 2023, went on the same day, same time, the place was dead, silent. The background music was intermittent but mostly not there, giving the atmosphere of a morgue. The food itself was an average carvery roast, lots of it but now £20 each. The chef was obviously different and could only produce an average meal.

We have visited the Afan Tavern several times but last Friday evening was exceptional, the Scampi was so well cooked and full of flavour and such a generous portion as always. The Jam Roly-poly dessert was just as gorgeous which oozed with the most delicious jam and moist fluffy sponge, the ice-cream gave it a lovely hot/cold contrast. The Shiraz wine we choose accompanied the meal so well. We are looking forward to returning.

Enjoyed Sunday dinner. Need to book table prior which was easy. Staff very helpful and friendly. I have been here few times and always have nice dinner. Only reason I gave 4 star is because the roast potato always cold. Would definitely recommend. Reserva una mesa ahora

First time here The food is absolutely beautiful!!!! Huge portion sizes, staff were lovely helpful. Cozy/warm atmosphere Will definitely be back as this is now my new favourite go to a great choice for gluten free which is hard to find!

incredible food! can not wait to visit this week again. fast service, great prices and huge portions. very clean and personal were friendly. we had chickens with chips and megaburger plucked with fries.

Simply amazing. Went there for the Girlfriends birthday Food atmosphere and service were all exemplary. Wish I could give them 6*. They all went above and beyond
