I visit Al's South Street Cafe regularly for lunch and generally have a great experience. My only minor issue is feeling a bit awkward when I add pesto to my tuna—it might be an uncommon choice, but it tastes fantastic! The sandwiches and salads are excellent, and it's tough to find another spot nearby offering the same combination of price, service, and quality. I'll let you be the judge, but I highly recommend the Small Tuna with lettuce, tomato, onions, balsamic vinaigrette, and pesto.
My favorite part of the meal was the bread—wow, it was incredibly delicious! I was so impressed that I reached out to the staff after my visit to inquire about it. I found out they bake it fresh right on-site, and you can really taste the difference. Everything was outstanding, and the fresh, generously portioned ingredients made for a wonderful lunch experience. If I lived in Boston, I would definitely go there every week! This restaurant is an absolute must-try!
Al's South Street is undoubtedly the best sub shop in Boston, hands down. Their Chicken Pesto Sub is truly fit for royalty. The grilled chicken is prepared in a way that reminds me of how I bake my chicken at home – incredibly juicy and tender. While the locomotive runs on diesel, the chef runs on Al's!
The subs at this restaurant are among the best in Boston, with a wide variety of options on the menu. They prepare your order quickly, and the subs are generously sized without breaking the bank. Overall I loved their salads with additional chicken, very much worth the price. However, they mixed up my order (the paper bag said teriyaki but I wasn't given teriyaki chicken) and only provided one set of utensils for two people.
The food at this restaurant is amazing, and it’s consistently bustling, both indoors and outdoors. They have a great system set up. If you’re short on time, calling ahead is the way to go. I really enjoy the steak and cheese!
Their bread is outstanding. My husband loved his sandwich. We even planned a trip from New York just to visit Al's!
