My wife and I ate here on New Year's Eve and it turned out to be a delighful way to see out the old year and bring in the new. The dining room of this ancient castle on a hill overlooking the city of Bamberg is positively baronial. It was a single sitting set menu advertised as four courses but which turned out to be five. Accordingly, there was no rush and the evening could be savoured at a leisurly pace. The food was delicious with complementary wines chosen by the restaurant to accompany each course. Myself and a friend stayed in Bamberg for five days in June 2011. We ate in the restaurant once during the day and twice on different evenings, we in fact spent our last evening at the castle.Apart for anything, the location is straight out of a movie!We had amazing food, I recommend the liver dumpling soup for starters, amazing! Oliver the chef came out later in the evening when we had almost finished to wish us well as we had met when dining at the restaurant outside in the sun on our first visit.Simply, if you are in Bamberg, do not pass through without visiting the castle and restaurant. Outstanding food, wine & service!!

A very nice place to dine both Lunch and Dinner. Great choice of Franconian & Bavarian Food as well as some intl Dishes, local Beers and Wine. Friendly tourist oriented staffs - speak some English. Of course you'd find other resto with much better food, but the view is excellent eventhough the price is a bit higher than the one at the same level. I dont need Underberg after a heavy meal there since one lap walk enough to release my tummy free :)

We stopped here on our way out of town after seeing a great deal of old Bamberg. I would recommend the car or a trolley/bus to get up to this place as it has a fairly steep climb to it. The views are incredible and the food was really good too at this former castle now restuarant. You can pay 1 euro and go to the top of the tower if you wish otherwise admission is free to walk over the site and parking is right outside and that is free as well. Reserva una mesa ahora

An amazing place, amazing views and amazing services and food!We had a few drinks in the court yard, some great German beer and ate in the courtyard. I had the fillet steak and it was delicious, the kind of steak your knife guilds through. If you're in Bamberg, do not miss going here for an evening meal, I believe it also serves food during the day on the terrace.

We love to entertain people up on Altenburg castle. Pretty envirement, spectalucar view of the world heritage site of Bamberg- very good food- mostly Franconian- nice beer and wine selection- extremly plesant on a hit summer day. - with a nice breeze of air! Worth thretrip up- you can also walk from the city (30 min) or take the Toursit bus!

I always enjoyed visiting Altenburg when I used to live in Bamberg. Many years later, I was able to bring my sons with me. We climbed the tower, had a beer at the beer garden, and enjoyed looking at the wonderful vistas from atop the hills. We then walked back down the hill into town and continued our fun visit to Beautiful Bamberg.

We ate our Sunday lunch here. Food and service were very good and atmosphere was excellent. It's not a very big place, so reservation is recommended if you are planning on eating on busy evenings. You can't beat the view of Bamberg from the castle on a clear day. Reserva una mesa ahora

Has a rather expensive eating establishment on the property, but the views are great all around the grounds. We didn't eat there, but went to tour the outside and admire the view of Bamberg. Recommend walking up there via the green park way versus the streets.

Great medieval castle, beautifully renovated and surrounded by great meadows!
