Service was prompt and setting is great but unfortunately that’s where it ended for my experience. I will admit my idea of a pork knuckle and crackling is possibly not Franconian. I heard great reviews and eagerly anticipated my meal here but unfortunately my expectations...were far from met. My expectations were lovely soft pork with great crackling and this was far from my expectations. Do yourself a favour and order something else I was very disappointed.
This is one of the best restaurants in the city if you are looking for traditional German food. Good selection of dishes, fair prices. They have menu in English, just ask for it ; I suggest the Schnitzel mit Kartoffelsalat. And of course, an excellent...local tap beer: Storchenbier. In sunny and warm days you can sit in the outside area. In the winter, I advise to always book a table beforehand.
Here is a restaurant that catches the eye. My mom and i were looking for a true franconian dinner. When entering you immediately notice all the old stuff they hung on the wall which creates a real comforting and mesmerising atmosphere. The Food was really...good and the personel friendly. Would go there again on any ocasion.

This restaurant has a great selection of beers, wines, and of course German cuisine. The schnitzel is fantastic and they also have very good Spätzle. The dishes come with tasty sides as well. The service is pretty good, but it can take some effort to...get the waiter's attention. They do have English menus available.
as most people here I visited the old simpl, led by trip advisor. what I found was a warm and cozy place with really charming ambiente. although I was alone, I was visited immediately and my order can be immediately. I ordered the pork. shoulder and was great. I will return.
An average experience, a decent evening, sat outside, we were served quickly, the food was good. I struggle sometimes with the brashness and rudeness of the waiters around Erlangen and this was no better than anywhere else but yes, I will return sometime.

I was regular guests years ago each time when I was able to visit once a year, I came back after a long time and noticed that atmosphere and service remain at the same level, but quality of food went noticeable.
