After a relaxing stroll along the Hunte River I had dinner in Wildeshausen a small town with hourly train connections to Bremen and Oldenburg. In the summer the restaurant doubles as a popular Biergarten, I dined at one of the many tables outside. Overall friendly and smiling service, although slightly slower as the restaurant became busier. The food is traditional with focus on regional produce. As starter I chose the Oldenburg potato soup a defty soup including diced carrots and slices of smoked sausage. Typically a winter dish, but quite tasty in the summer too! As main course the marinated roast lamb shanks were a real highlight: the lamb was perfectly prepared rosa and incredibly tender...
A quiet place with great food and great service. We had lamb and oxen. Both were cooked for perfection and the meat was very tender and the beer was amazing. All flavors complicated themselves. We had lemon cake for dessert. It was one of the best lemon cakes we've ever tried. The taste was creamy and not sour. The service was very fast, we didn't have to wait long to get our food. The atmosphere here is great, everything feels very cozy especially on a warm day. The style and architecture of the restaurant and all around are very relaxing. If you are ever close, I would recommend eating here, especially if you have a long ride, this is a perfect place to have a break.
