We went to Arempas in Midvale on a Saturday afternoon around 3. Overall impressions: clean, nice decor, fun music. The service was pretty good. We we seated in an empty area, the other side kept getting all the patrons. The waiter showed up 5-10 minutes later and we asked about the menu as it’s our first time. He was very knowledgeable; I ordered the pabellon arepa. It’s a fried corn meal biscuit thing cut open filled with meat, cheese and sweet plaintains. Definitely a new taste combo for me, it’s a good thing! Great taste, just wish the filling was more evenly distributed and the shell was pretty tough to eat. Messy too.My husband chose the fried pork and cheese cachapa. I tried it, the pork was almost too crispy but tasty; the corn pancake part is pretty sweet, my husband liked it a lot.Overall, a good experience. I have a gluten intolerance and loved that almost all the menu is gluten free. We will be back!

I had saved this location after seeing an episode of DDD with Guy Fiery. I saw that it was a Venezuelan restaurant and knew I had to try it out. I am in Salt Lake City quite often just hadn't had the chance to stop by. I had the pulled pork and shredded beef arepas. They were delicious and savory. The next thing on the menu I tried was the fried plantains another great selection to try when visiting the restaurant. Don't forget to get yourself a Polar beer, great tasting Venezuelan pilsner, imported none the less but great. I definitely recommend the food and location, enjoy.

I’ve been driving across the west, eating whatever the interstate offers me. So it’s a nice change of pace to stop in at a place like this. We ordered one each of an arempa (grilled chicken), a cachapa (pulled pork) and an empanada (shredded beef, plantain black beans). All were tasty, but my wife and grandson liked the empanada best. We ordered at the counter, so no issues with service. Drinking just tap water, including tax tip, the total was $40.

I stumbled across this place while in the area for a conference. The staff was outside giving samples and we knew we picked the right spot! Everyone was so beyond friendly, helpful and patient while we decided what to get. You get huge portions for the price. I got the pork arempas while a co worker got the empanadas. So delicious. I would highly recommend it! It was even featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dines!!
