The food was stunning. We went for the chefs selection which was the 5 courses. I loved every dish!!! I was also left feeling full with the generous loaf of beautiful bread that is given at the start of the meal, to accompany the courses. There was also canapes before the meal while we had a drink in their bar area. The service was also outstanding, everyone very knowledgeable about the wines and courses. It was a very pleasant and tasty experience. My only slight negative would be that it just is a little too stark. There isn't really any atmosphere. It's just too bright inside. We booked at Arras for our wedding anniversary whilst visiting York for the weekend. Location wise this restaurant could be described as off the beaten track given it’s just outside the centre. We also found ourselves checking we’d found the right place as we approached because you’d be forgiven for thinking it was a Solicitor’s office or an Estate Agents. However, as you step inside you can see this is a modern restaurant with friendly staff who do all they can to ensure you have a memorable experience. We had an amazing night at Arras. We are making our way through the Michelin recommended/starred restaurants in York and so far, this is the best. The restaurant has a hidden garden behind it, situated under the city walls and surrounded by old stables, which set the perfect atmosphere. The service was excellent, with a highly knowledgeable staff member who could provide advice on wines and discuss the ingredients in the dishes. He recommended the best options, not necessarily the most expensive. I opted for the vegetarian dishes, which were exquisite (the vegetarian tasting dish requires 24 hours notice). as part of the high-time celebration and had 7-course menu, eating was nice and good step, came with alcoholic drinks to supplement the meal. the personal was beautiful and has received individual requests, e.g. alcohol-free drinks for drivers and low-alcohol people (like me)! chairs and equipment was very comfortable and environment was airy and well kept temperature (at heatwave . the restaurant remained open at the usual near time to host the high-time guests and no drink remained dry. my favourite course was the skalopp and squid, which (as the rest of the food was built with complex aromen. would recommend a special opportunity experience or even a one-time meal. compliments to servier... beautiful little restaurant hidden on the edge of the city. the inner was like the dining room of a posh mansion. modern decor, which was beautiful. only on the bottom was the lack of customers, probably since we were on a Wednesday at 12:30. the eating was surprisingly nice and decent portion sizes also. brot and butter were served after ordering. starter: a dish that was quite delicious and very full. my partner ordered the pasta with fish for the starter and that was just as beautiful but refreshing. pornstars with a Thai green curry sauce. nicely cooked salmon, very juicy, the sides went well with the dish. only on the bottom were the aurburgines. they were very bitter.
Loved this place. Had the 5 course kitchen menu with recommended wines and was blown away with everything served. Each course was exemplary, and the selected wines matched perfectly. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable without being pushy. If we had a very minor complaint, it was that the amuse-bouche, a gorgeous miniature baked potato with a mouse and caviar, was served on a ridiculous stone disk the size of a hockey puck...almost impossible to eat without dropping some of the food onto the table. Expensive, but definitely worth it. I would not be surprised to find that Arras gains a Michelin star at some point, and we'll definitely be going back.
Today we had lunch in arras, a birthday gallery for me. what a beautiful experience. we loved the performance and the ambiente and could not mistake the service or eating. we have tried out other hi-end restaurants in york, some “key type” menus but prefer to arrange a decent part from a small selection at. (the poched chicken starter was fab) many thanks for a nice day, we will be back!
