Valreas was our fifth stop of our two week driving tour of Provence enjoying the food and wine, but more specifically for the truffles in this region of Provence. We stayed the weekend at the Les Ursulines farmhouse/vineyard nearby where we ran across a business...card for Au Delice. We decided to tour Valreas (it doesn't take long) on Sunday after enjoying the truffle sales in Richerenches the day before. Most everything is closed on Sunday; but we did find Au Delice. This area was interesting as the locals are not accustomed to English in the least; nonetheless, we were able to adequately communicate and ordered from the fixed menu. Au Délice de Provence is hidden in a narrow street in the Old Town of Valreas, nd it took us quite a while to find the place. The restaurant is located in an old building with a vaulted dining room. The owners manages the dining...room service is professional if a trifle stiff. We had the Saveurs et Epices menu , which at is good value for money. We had the octopus salad with yuzu and coriander as a starter (nice), I had a fish as main course, while my wife opted for a vegetable main course with a hint of truffles (it not being truffle season). Our daughter had the children's menu, and she was pleased with it. Food was good but not truly memorable; the local red wine we had was pleasant.
This hidden restaurant offers genuine French cuisine with a local twist. We were here on a hot summer night, and they have a terrace in front of the restaurant. Service was pleasant, not the quickest but this is no KFC and food was...delicious. I liked the local touch on the food selection and menu. Fresh local products, and good selection of local wines. Right in the hear of a beautiful Valreas old-town, but hidden on a side street. Parking not available next to the restaurant, but on the main street. This is in the middle of old town on a narrow street that is not square and straight forward. Like it should be in old towns in France and Italy.

We had two times dinner at Au Delice de Provence. First time we had a lovely evening outside at the terras. Although the restaurant is in the centre of Valreas, the terras is quiet and secluded on a small and just renovated square. The second...evening we sat inside due to the weather, but we sat equally well. Both times we choose the menu with typical regional dishes and excellent regional wines. The food was well prepared and we enjoyed the food and wine for a reasonable price.
We drove to Valreas seeking Jef Challier, Chocolatier, but when we got to his (former) shop, we learned he quit to become a Professeur. Downhearted, we decided to have lunch and chose Au Delice. Wow, had our luck changed! Of our month and a half...[so far] in Cote D'Azur/Provence, it was one of the finest meals we had, and that's saying a lot. For a relatively small town they certainly have fine dining at their disposal. Not to be missed when you're in the neighborhood!
My partner had been impressed with the food here on a visit year ago, so we went on our first night in the town. Looking back weeks later on our experience, I was underwhelmed. The food was not up to expectations and a...local lady seemed to agree that perhaps other restaurants in the area were better..
We had a very pleasant dinner, although a bit expensive, at the tiny terrace with a very fuity-vanille rose wine from a small local domain (val des rois).

1 resto "plutôt" gastronomique .....on y mange bien !!! service aimable .... seul petit bémol, le voisinage du restaurant qui peut être bruyant :-((
cuisine délicieuse cadre très raffiné, accueil excellent à ne pas rater si vous passez dans cette belle région!
