I really hate to write this as the couple who owned the place were very nice, friendly, and really tried to make the evening go smooth. The food was just poorly prepared, and not very interesting. I chose Au Petia because of all the reviews..... I was expecting a simple, local , Basque meal, in an out of the way place next to the river. The shrimp starter was so tough you could not eat it even after tearing through the shells. The stuffed mussels were maybe a 5 and the best part of the meal. The main course of Dourad was very small, had no flavor. The duck was very tough and the sauce was not very good. I could go on but this was the kind of night we had. I can not belive the chef had an off night. Don't go here expecting what you see in some reviews.

We love to eat where the locals eat and we were taken by our hosts to this restaurant. We ate outside in the evening on the patio.Just across the road from the river in Bayonne, it is worth the 15 minute drive from Biarritz, to experience a impressively authentic Basque menu.It leans strongly on fresh local seafood, but there is something there for everybody. The service was laidback, but seamless and professional, and our server was quite entertaining offering us good look at the region and it's cuisine.Considering the serving sizes, we thought it is also represented a very good value.Looking back we realized that our visit here was a bit of a highlight on this visit to France and especially to this region.

We stay in Bayonne when driving down to Portugal and we found this little restaurant a couple of years ago. It's family owned and run by 3 generations. We liked it the first time, called again last year but it was closed (I think it was a Sunday) but we called again this year and enjoyed a lovely dinner of local Basque style dishes we had not experienced elsewhere. We'll definitely return.

Been in France a week. Staying in Biarritz. Not mad about French food... Until tonight. Fantastic dinner in a completely unexpected location. Weather was awful, took the kids karting and stumbled on this place. What a find. Fish for two was outstanding dish. We'll be back!
