The owners are probably not interested in something like a Michelin star, but the quality of the dishes they are serving cames very close. You will not have trouble finding a good menu - allthough the card is limited which in general is a good sign - with the help of the chef. Several dishes are very specific for this restaurant and you will not find them easily in other restaurants. Apparently, the chef likes to waiter himself. After about an hour when the place got more busy, a lady jumped in. So worked very efficiently, but it is clear that he has the natural charm. It is clear why this restaurant is rated first on tripadvisor for Cabourg. This restaurant has one major handicap. It is located a few kilometers from the centre of Cabourg along an interconnection. However, it is worth driving up here and you will easily find a parking space around the restaurant. It is a very quit neighbourhood. Inside the restaurant, he had the fireplace working or at least he tried to. The prices for the menu are quite acceptable. However, the price of the wine (long and exceptional list thought) is exorbitant, a classical Frenh habit, were they take their profits primarily from the drinking. You risk paying more for the bottle of wine than for the servings. If you visit Normandy and you are looking for an excellent restaurant, this is a no brainer.

This meal was all we had hoped for after a long drive from the south. We always travel back on the Ouistreham-Portsmouth ferry but our usual dining place is shut on Sunday evenings, so we were delighted to find Au Pied des Marais was open. The meal started with a delicious asparagus amuse bouche, then starters (I had veloute), main courses (superbly cooked duck), refreshing apple sorbet, hot camembert in a very thin pastry case, and truly wicked profiteroles, washed down with pouilly fume. All travel stresses melted away and we slept most contentedly on the overnight ferry home.

On a sunny Sunday afternoon we had driven along the coast from Honfleur trying to find a nice restaurant that also had available parking.

Everything is good : food (with "trou Normand",...), service (with smile,...), setting (with fireplace,...).
