The proper words will probably be lacking to properly deceive Au Vieux Fort also known as astronomical genius.When you first walk in you are immediately faced with history. The restaurant is built on a foundation that was built in 1692, started as a fort in 1692 and destroyed during the early 1800s in the war it was rebuilt over the centuries. What remains and is currently standing is an absolutely amazing hidden jewel.From the appetizer to the French onion soup, to the main course, everything is done artfully, full of flavor and absolute culinary perfection. Total Rip Off. We were 4 people to celebrate a birthday. We started with French Onion Soup. There was hardly any cheese and the broth had no flavour. We finished our appetizers and waited, and waited....and waited for our main course. The owner arrived to let us know "the chef had to go and help someone so your dinner will be delayed". We had ordered 2 orders of chateaubriand for 2. What arrived on each of our plates were about 5 slices of cold, thinly cut beef fondue, 2 tiny potatoes, one carrot and 6 string beans. The cost of the chateaubriand was $120.00 plus tax. Did I already mention rip off? We were still hungry. I complained to the manager and she sent over another small piece of beef...
We went to the Vieux Fort last Saturday night with our family. We had reservations for 7:30 and we were seated quickly. The restaurant was very nice and clean it's an old rustic style. The service was excellent, a good reasonable wine list and a lot of good choices on the menu. My brother in law and I ordered the large beef chop for , two, and it was excellent, my sister in law ordered the fish with almonds and she enjoyed it. My wife and four friends recently had lunch here. We were warmly welcomed at the door by the owner, Mme MacDuff and escorted to our table. All of us ordered the soup which was excellent and each of us had a different entrée. I ordered the wapiti which I had never ordered before. At the suggestion of the server, I ordered it rare and found it to be very tender with a complementary maple based sauce. We have been to this restaurant 3 times over the past 2 years. Not that many times but it is at a fair driving distance from our residence. First, the place is in an old historical building. I just can’t resist their Scampi cooked with pastis. They are just amazing. Entrées are great, so is the fish and all type of meat. We have been there as couple but also with friends and we all loved it. It is on the pricy side but so worth it.
Wow! Nous sommes allés pour la première fois au Vieux Fort hier soir. Nous étions agréablement surpris! Les saveurs et présentations étaient vraiment impressionnantes. Ils font tout maison et tout est fait à la minute, ça parait! Le service impeccable de Marie-Claude a bien complété notre belle soirée! Merci! Nous y retournerons!
Il existe encore de ces endroits où le service se fait avec Classe et dont le décor à lui seul participe au plaisir d'y être attablé. La nourriture y est préparée avec soin et les saveurs sont au rendez-vous. Une des bonne table du Vieux-La Prairie à prix concurrentiel pour le secteur.
