Auberge de Gallau

I hesitate to write this review because I would love to keep this restaurant my little local secret. And I don't want the hordes to overwhelm and undermine a solid local gem. So, only go if you are well intentioned, respectful of family run businesses, seek delicious simple fare, warm welcomes and are VERY hungry. Don't expect anything fancy. The Auberge de Gallau is like being invited to someone's home. The owners have a lovely spot on the top of the "côtes" with pretty trees and a nice outdoor covered terrace. Décor is rustic French. The menu is prix fixe for a hearty meal, pitcher of wine included and includes a lovely first course platter of entrées - jambon, terrine de canard, cake au légumes - followed by a second entrée so pace yourself. You will have a choice of main dish followed by an ample cheese platter and a choice of desert. Coffee not included in the prix fix. This is a wonderful spot for a Sunday family mid-day meal. Reserve well in advance as they are often booked weeks to months ahead. Appreciate the genuine, non-fancy, authentic warmth and simple quality of the place.

The Auberge de Gallau is invited at home. The owners have a beautiful place on the top of the Côtes with pretty trees and a beautiful covered outdoor terrace. Décor is French. The menu is prix fixe for a hearty meal, pitcher of wine included and includes a beautiful first course plate of entrées jambon, terrine de canard, cake au légumes followed by a second entrée so pace itself. They have a selection of main dish followed by a plentiful cheese plate and a selection of desert. Coffee not included in the Prix Fix. This is a wonderful place for a Sunday family lunch. Reserve well in advance as they are often booked weeks to months before. Rate the real, non-fancy, authentic warmth and easy quality of the place.

We've been visiting Galau for many years. It's one of our favorites. Not only because the food is always great, but the hosts are beautiful people. The Galau always produces abundant, beautiful, local traditional local cuisine. 5 minutes outside of Lezat sur Leze...in the hills, its beautiful location. In summer you can sit on the covered terrace. You have to be booked. The meal is set, five or so courses. Charcuterie, salads, the main, you can choose from a selection of the most important courses and dessert. Ente is very much part of the menu, although they have alternatives for the main. The wine is also included, as well as a very good cheese selection plate. Aperitifs and coffee are extra. One of our last visits was the price per person around € 28, great value. This is perfect for a lunch and especially if you are a group, but you need to book and the Galau is not open every day, so please call. Don't miss this leak!

We went with friends who are regulars here, while staying at their country house close by. In a sentence, our lunch could have been scripted straight from a movie. The food, location, ambience (we were a big party of 12 in the barn) was the most perfect rural French dining experience you could imagine. The food is rustic and traditional, home cooked food by the wonderful family that own, run and live on the premises. Be warned - the portions are generous and ensure you don't feast too much too early or you will spoil the later courses. If a beautiful rural location and wholesome cooked and locally sourced food is your thing than Auberge De Gallau will not disappoint. We can't wait to go back!

The food, the location, the ambience (we were a big party of 12 in the barn) was the... perfectly rural French culinary experience you could imagine. The food is rustic and traditional, home-cooked food from the wonderful family who own, run and live on the grounds. Be warned, the portions are generous and make sure that you do not grind too early or you will pamper the later courses. If a beautiful rural location and healthy cooked and local food is your thing as an eggplant De Gallau won't disappoint. We can't wait to go back!
