Auberge du Villarsois

We visit the region regularly and are always keen to try out new restaurants as well as visiting old favourites. In summary, we won't be coming back to the Auberge du Villarsois. The menus are limited and don't seem to change, given the worn look to the printed menu cards. The restaurant has a rather sad outdated feel to it. It also appears that the 'patronne' does not yet know about French no-smoking rules, as she sat behind the counter for much of the evening smoking, the smoke drifting out into the courtyard adding an interesting shaky flavour to our duck and lamb brochettes. The brochettes were very large and bizarrely served on large cranes placed in front of each diner, with two pots of sauce plus a plate of cooked vegetables. Some might say this is wholesome old-fashioned French cuisine....and if that is what you want, then go to Auberge and sample the 'super-kebabs'. There are however other restaurants in Villars and nearby villages where you can dine on much more inspired feed at a similar price, and in nicer, better appointed surroundings .... without a smoker behind the counter.

we visited the restaurant on a Sunday evening, along with a few the only guests. the service - the patron - was initially reserved, deafened in the run of the evening more and more. we sat in the courtyard, a bit karg, but windproof, good for cooler evenings. also the interior was very cozy.As an appetizer delicious thunfischcarpaccio, the steak as a main dish, as well as fish were lovingly prepared. the quality of the food surprised us - we had not expected it at such a local. good selection of wines of the region. we enjoyed the white wines of the waitery of Lumière.A very nice all-round successful evening, without having to strain the cashier over fee, we paid with creammant, 4x menue , 2 bottle wein and water, caffe about 200 € to four.

the restaurant is located in an old stable, in the village of villars. The well in the dining room is beautiful. The server and the leader have been very welcoming. good value for money.

We've been eating outstandingly. The syringe was excellent. Villars a small town with restaurants and a hot baker!

We eat well, there's a small terrace for summer evenings and the welcome is smiling. I don't miss it!
