In June, just before main season, this seemed to be the only resto around that was open. In square in St Fargeau just below the chateau. Really nice food, and posh enough to give little amuse-gueules in between courses. My croustillant de St Jacques et...Homard was really tasty, and filled with meaty fish seafood. We ate outside cos it was hot. One of the things I really dislike about French restos is that if you eat outside you have to put up with people's fag smoke. Why can't they ban it?
We were staying in the town so had dinner here, based on the reviews. The service left a bit to be desired as we felt a bit forgotten, but was definitely very friendly. The food was good, but nothing exceptional. Three went for different fish...dishes, which were definitely acceptable, and the forth for steak. The entrés deserts were quite good, actually better than the main courses. I would have given them an overall 3.5 if it existed, but couldn 't go for very good , since it was lacking.
This was a birthdate treat while we were visiting the area. We had booked some days in advance and although the restaurant was not full we're glad we had as it was a damp evening and our inside table was perfect. We indulged in the...specials of the evening and my braised pigs cheeks was rich, tender and unctuous. My husband's ris de veau pie was beautifully cooked and tasty. There was an amuse Boucher, starters and a fabulous cafe gourmand for dessert. Truly a memorable birthday.
breakfast stop on the return route; we had already gone but out of season and it was very good; change for the month of July: a net of beef (tend and tasteful) but mini-tourdos style, accompanied by a pudding and very good small vegetables, but in limited quantity: a spoon of soup bombed ... paved for people in the diet! Just a step from the castle. What a typical French cuisine... Everything was delicious. Cheap menu. We came on a busy day, but we enjoyed the food so much that we took the French habits and took our time... We would probably have been less...patient in a restaurant at home in Florida but surrounded by so much history and refined food, the delay was forgotten...
We came to this restaurant on the evening of the show at the castle. Arrival 19:15, repart 19:45. with apero, entrance, dish and dessert. express meal therefore rather good but nothing exceptional. And an invoice that's quite salty to our taste... inside, it's very dark.
dishes are simple and of good quality very copied nothing to say. Small flat the two-course formula served at noon on the website was denied to us by the manager not very smiling because we are in the summer!!!Serves nice and smiling.

restaurant next to the castle, good reception, hearty meals, quick service. upstairs service with setting on the castle. I recommend it for those who come to visit Saint Fargeau.
