Ordered delivery from here since it had good reviews. I needed to feed a small group of people. They were incredibly helpful on the phone and recommended how much I should order for my group. I ended up getting a chicken breast and pork rib platter with salad and beans. Unfortunately the food was not very good. The chicken was so overcooked it was basically cardboard and the ribs were just OK. The salad was also mediocre and there was no dressing included. The beans were juat cannned black beans warmed up. I wish I could give this establishment 0 stars. I ordered take out and SPECIFICALLY requested ketchup and BBQ sauce which should have been provided. I'm appalled that a meal with fries ketchup is not offered along with the bbq sauce. They both were not in the bag. I called to let them know instead of an apology this backward a woman proceeded to argue with me that no one asked and why would she not put in the bag if it was requested. Poor service and the food was mediocre at best. It's the responsibility of a restaurant to make sure the customer has what they need and if they didn't receive it an apology should be offered. This place operates mostly on a walk-in basis, but the food was really excellent during my last visit. We found the pork cubes to be a bit dry, though. The shrimp appetizer is flavorful, but I feel it's overpriced. I understand that shrimp can be expensive, but it still seems too costly for what you get. On the other hand, the $25 steak is a great value! In the photo, I only trimmed off about a quarter of the steak. Two of us shared it for one meal, and then I chopped up the leftovers and fried them with rice, which was enough for three people.
I had the chance to dine at Backyard BBQ twice while working in the South Plainfield School District. The person at the register was very friendly and attentive, engaging in great conversation. Most importantly, the food was excellent during my first visit, which prompted me to return for a second time. I wasn't disappointed on my second visit either. Whenever I find myself in the area again, I will be sure to stop in for lunch—and possibly dinner—at this restaurant.

Good Portuguese barbecue in huge portions. I got the BBQ Chicken and Beef Short Rib combo (plain no sides). There was more a person could possibly eat. The chicken was excellent, but the beef short ribs were overcooked and tough. It was served in a covered aluminum tray, which unfortunately I cut myself removing the cover. I am not in this area often, but if I return, I will try something else here maybe just the chicken by itself.
The absolute worst that I ever had in my life. I got a mix chicken and shrimp didn't put any shrimp in there. The cheese wasn’t melted, the fries were overcooked, there was just one pepper on the cheesesteak, and the beans lacked flavor.
Food is always excellent and I tried the steak sandwich which was delicious and tender.
