Badshah is one of those places that make me wonder why some places have the doors open, when people aren't wanted inside. The lady at the counter, the person serving you, and the people working inside are all unfriendly and hostile. The guy who served me the food, responded to my thanking him, by a strained nod, as if to indicate to me that I should just get back to my seat and start eating. While the restaurant has a bit of authenticity in appearance, with the counter packed with Indian street food and the air smelling of spices to give a dhaba or street restaurant feel, a few minutes in this "authenticity" is just uncomfortable. Most Indian street restaurants have a bit of breeze mixed with spices going in and out, and are well lit. Badshah with it's dim lit interiors, dark walls and suffocating smell of garam masala induces nausea. The food was mixed, ranging from good to bad. One plus point was the nice sauces that they served with the samosa. The vegetables and rice, range from undercooked to overcooked, but the curry sauces are made from original Indian spices . I ate my food with a fridge cold lassi, which always kills the taste of a thick lassi.Overall, the hype around this place can't be explained. As to whether the people working in Badshah are dissatisfied cooking, or serving, or annoyed by politeness, I can't tell. One thing though is for sure, you aren't wanted here.

Two years ago I would have given the same 5 star feedback most of the reviewers give but today I cannot do it anymore.Don't get me wrong, it is still the same shabby-chic restaurant, totally crowded most of the time, noisy and a bit dirty with cheap Thali and I still go there if I want to have a quick snack but the atmosphere changed. It is not nice and welcoming any more. The people working there are suddenly arrogant and have an overconfidence that is enough to fill the room itself. They give you the feeling they don't need you and if I was depending on their benevolence.I honestly hope that Badshah would go back to what it was. That the Samosas contain more then just a potato-curry, that there are some paneer pieces not just palak and that the staff enjoys communicting with the customers again. If not I don't see myself as a regular customer any more and I guess I will not be the only one.

Well, it's not a restaurant really, so don't come with those expectations, it's a cheap eat out serving quick & tasty Indian food. I had the Palak Paneer thali, the main dish, palak paneer was delicious, naan was good too. Rice and daal were pretty average, also had a mango lassi which was nice. This is a self service place that means you can save on tip if you are looking for a cheap eat. :P :PWell, even though the place is fine, I would be coming back when I am looking for Indian food and in a hurry, otherwise the nearby Dostana restaurant would be a preferred option, its thali is a couple euro more but worth it.
