Baeckerei Schmidl - Wachauer Backstube

I understand that this bakery is quite well known and even sends their bread to Vienna and I can only comment on one item I purchased from this shop. Several people on Trip Advisor said that the pastries here were excellent so my husband and I stopped in to buy a couple of pieces of apple streudel to take back to our hotel which was just down the road. Well I must say we were both extremely disappointed with our purchase as I am not sure what happened to the apple in the streudel but if there was any it must have been hiding in what can only be described as floury yuk filling with about two raisins in total. We have both had excellent streudel in various places in Austria so this is definite...

This place was like going back in time. I loved it. I love the old feeling, with absolutely delightful food. We had the apricot strudel...never knew they made such a thing, it was so delightful. We got two to go... What a wonderful place. If you are blessed with the chance to stop here...DO !

Cozy coffee shop&bakery with wide offer of fruit cakes and bread. The walnut bread is worth tasting. Also typical Wachauer white bread is delicious. The bakery has been there since 1780. When you come in July you can try many apricot specialities.

Although a small collection of pastries in the bakery, excellent quality. Staff was not friendly, but not sure if they spoke English and we were there when they were busy.

Really good coffee. Apricot shtrudel very nice. Apple not as good. Nice place to sit after walking around the village
