"We sampled the cheese tart and cream puff. Both were quite enjoyable, though not particularly unforgettable or irresistible. If we happen to be nearby, we may stop in again. The tarts are especially delicious when served warm."

I have seen many people raving about the delicious desserts at Bake49 on Instagram, so I was eager to finally give it a try. Last Saturday, I convinced my fiance to accompany me to this Japanese bakery located on Mainland St in Vancouver's Yaletown area. We tried the four items in the photo (matcha wheel, black sesame cheese tart, original cheese tart, Earl grey croissant) along with the cream puff (choux pastry)They pipe the filling into the pastry fresh on the spot for the cream puff, so you gotta eat it within an hr or so—so fresh! Worth every penny! The matcha wheel is 100% worth trying. The matcha cream inside is incredible. As for the cheese tart, I’d recommend going for the tried and true original, though it’s nice to have interesting flavours. The girl said the other fan fave is the strawberry ? cheese tart, which I’ll try next time.

I arrived just as the cheese tarts were being served to see what all the buzz was about. It was my first time trying a cheese tart, and although it was warm and flaky, the tartness of the cheese didn't quite mix well with the black sesame. The combination was a bit strange, with the savory and sweet flavors not quite harmonizing.

I have been going to B49 once a week for the past 2.5 years and every drink or pastry I've tried has been amazing! You can tell the care and quality they put into each product. All of my co-workers love this place as well and we will always choose to get our weekly treats here : thank you so much B49!
