Banmaai

Banmaai is a very modern looking Thai restaurant in Kiel, just a few minutes walk off of the harbour-side.It was a very warm evening at the time of our visit and almost the whole of the façade was opened up to let in a gentle breeze. On the interior the rattan wall work gives a natural, minimalist but a comfortable, modern feel. Bliss, and that's before the food was served.The food options are very good and you can't go wrong with Tom Ka Gai to start with, and for mains, the Gai Pad Prik Thai Gratiem is amazing !If you are looking for a beer, then you are in safe hands with a choice of local fare and some bottled Thai as well. For cocktails too the selection seems good, it's only in the the wine and spirits department that things are a little on the small side.The staff were great, friendly and thankfully accommodating to our lack of the local language.Overall a very pleasant experience.

after some time calling for reservation from new opening time and always get fully booked, today we ware there on Thursday without reservation and we got a table, the restaurant is not full at all. We had starters with shrimps sauer soup & chicken cocos soup, that was all ok. The main courses was not the right choice when we had Tuna Steak with salat and souse in Thai art, and Thai chicken curry... they are not like we expected, the fish was very hard, no taste and dry, the souse is very salty so we have to take a lot of rice together. The curry is very salty. We maybe try again another dishes another time, but never again Tuna & curry here. Service is ok, but there are so many different staff who serve one table so it is for us not cosy and we fell like we sit at a fast food restaurant, even the restaurant are decorative trendy cosy style.

Banmaai was recommended to us by our Airbnb hosts and it became my highlight of Kiel. The decor is superb, and the ambience nice and chilled. I ordered a green curry and was blown away by it - it's almost as good as the ones I had in Thailand. My boyfriend went for the Pad Thai and same goes there. Since we're both vegetarian we were happy to see a lot of veggie options, and the price was good. I went back for lunch and ordered something I had no idea of, and was equally impressed. Definitely worth a try.

While out walking, we happened to pass by. Read the menu and thought we'd give it a try. BEST DECISION EVER! Food and presentation was magnificent and the service was stellar. I had red curry with chicken and my companion had the Thai tiger shrimp. We had the mixed appetizer. All was delightful. If you're in Kiel, try this place. You won't be disappointed!

Banmaai is a wonderful Thai restaurant with Ambiente, top service and most of all a menu of Thai wok and curry dishes that must find its equal in Germany let alone Kiel. I dine quite regularly at the Banmaai and have never been disappointed in trying something new almost every time.
