Barthel's Restaurant

This restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel so we decided to give it a try. It has both inside and garden seating and seemed to be popular as there were many people dining here. The garden was through the archway at the back of the property and was quiet so we decided to give it a try. In Germany you seat yourself at restaurants and we found a table for two and sat down. The wait staff was prompt with the drinks order and we spent some time purusing the menu. However, it became clear that this menu was the same one we had been seeing at any other restaurant we had been to while hiking in this part of Germany. We recently returned from a 3 week trip to Europe and we ate at many wonderful restaurants in every country that we visited. However, Barthel's is the restaurant that we remember the most fondly. It is a perfect little place. The owner/manager quietly and efficiently has thought of every aspect of presenting a wonderful dining experience. There is not one wrong or disappointing note anywhere. The decor is nice, the chairs are comfortable, the service is welcoming, and the food is outstanding. Everything we ordered, from the wine to the coffees and desserts, made us happy. On our way to Prague along the Elbe River we had lunch in this small restaurant in Bad Schandau, run by the cook and his wife. Good and friendly service and very much enjoyed their platter of Trout a la Meunière. Well priced and a good place for a stopover during midday.

Great local meals for less then €15. Tipical meet stews, large and tastefull. Definately a better option then the Chinese and Italian restaurants in town. Great local dishes, friendly staff, quick serving and not at all expensive! Reserva una mesa ahora

We arrived to a full restaurant and were asked to come back after a stroll. Service was good, nice German red wine. We had the chicken schnitzel and beef sourbraren. Both delicious and big portions. Will go back next time!

According reviews it seemed like something special, but it wasn´t. We´ve been there for lunch, service was good, but the food not so much, rather avrage I would say. Next time I would choose some other restaurant to eat.

We enjoyed our lunch at this place. The portions were big and food was very tasty. We ordered soljanka, gulasch and gefühlte schweineschnitzel. The waiter consider our wishes and was helpful. Highly recommended

We had lunch in the courtyard and it was very relaxing. The restaurant offers typical provincial German food and it was good value. It was nicely presented, sensibly priced and the staff were very friendly. Reserva una mesa ahora

We were very satisfied with food in this restaurant. Service, soup, dish - all 5 star! When I go to this little town again I definitely stop at this place for lunch or dinner.

Ate here twice in our week's stay in Bad Schaundau. Highly recommend the wild boar ragout (Wildschwein). Best to have a reservation, especially on the weekends.
