Belyando Crossing Roadhouse

After reading someof the reviews on here, I was expecting something resembling a Syrian war zone run by a north Korean dictator. To be honets, one of the reasons I wanted to stay here was because some of the reviews were so appalling. On that regard I was disappointingly surprised.Belyando Roadhouse is 200 kilometres south of Charters Towers and about 150km north of Clermont. That puts it fairly and squarely in the middle of nowhere. It is the only stop for petrol between those two towns. For us, it was the only place to stay mid-way between Cobbold Gorge and our next destination of Mount Morgan. while travelling through outback queensland about 200km south of Charters Towers around dinnertime I spotted this roadhouse, I pulled in to checkout their menu,I found it was a bit more than just a fuel stop,the place is also the local pub motel and camp ground,I ordered a burger with the lot, it was good, and I mean really good, I was invited to sit with the people that were at the outdoor setting under the pub veranda, we got chatting, it turned out all three sitting there also worked there and they mentioned the camp grounds and motel rooms,as I had a tent and swag in the car and the food, drinks along with teh friendly company made it an appealing place to stop for the night and find out...

No gluten free bread and as much of the menu was sandwiches or burgers or crumbed/ battered food this stumped me at first. Asked for a burger without the bread and this was no problem in the end. Basic but generous amount of salad. Partner had chicken schnitzel burger but schnitzel was very dark (overlooked) and chicken was tough and stringy. Tasty but left unpleasant oily aftertaste. Not sure if oil was well used or if it was just too long in the deep fryer. Friendly staff. But it wouldn't hurt to keep a loaf of gluten free bread in the freezer like everyone else does

We called into this roadhouse on way to charters towers,if you needed to use the toilet you are required to place a '$2' deposit for the key,but unless you buy something from the shop your so called $2 deposit is not returned but is kept by the roadhouse,it is our opinion that you should use the toilets located 90 km north of the roadhouse or use the side of the road south of it,businesses that rip people off in this way should be avoided by the travelling public

After reading mixed reviews of the Belyando roadhouse we stopped for diesel and we’re absolutely delighted with what we found. Firstly the fuel was the cheapest we had found in days which is incredible given the location. The service was great and the takeaway food...offer was also good. It was a cold,wet day so some hot food was well received. Take the time to stop and enjoy this gem.
