We took the cable car up (wearing skirts and flipflops!! thinking we were going to have a lovely lunch and relax (which we did!! but ended up spotting a lake from our view while having lunch at Aescher. We ended up walking down the mountain to the lake. We didn't even know the lake was there and thought the restaurant was going to be the main feature of the day. The lake was stunning! Well worth the walk, the time and the money (cable car . It was absolutely beautiful. We paid for a return trip on the cable car gondola but only ended up using one way as once we got down to the lake (about 40 minutes from Aescher it was another 2 hours back to the cable car (uphill!!! which we were not so kee...

Wanderung ca 1 Std 300 Höhenmeter ab Wasserauen (Bahnhof Appenzellerbahnen). Nur zu Fuss erreichbar. Gasthaus Forelle am Seealpsee mit wunderbarer Aussicht im Alpstein. Freundliche Bedienung, gute Küche, preislich (Essen) eher am oberen Rand, Getränke ok. Erstaunlicherweise gibt 's bei den alkoholfreien Getränken in der heutzutage üblichen Grösse von 0.5 Liter nur sehr wenige Allerweltsangebote . Die besondere (innovative bzw neue) Getränkevielfalt aus der Region (Appenzell bzw Ostschweiz) fehlt fast gänzlich, dies im Gegensatz zu den andern Berggasthäusern in der Region. Sehr schade! Dies trübt den Gesamteindruck! Leider hat man den früher wunderschönen Kiesplatz in der Gartenwirtschaft dur...
Der Berggasthof Forelle liegt idyllisch am Seealpsee. Nach dem Umbau ist alles sehr schön und modern erstellt. Für warme Tage gibt es eine grosse Terrasse und innen ist ein heller Gastraum mit riesigen Fenstern, damit man die Umgebung voll geniessen kann. Das Essen ist vorzüglich mit vielen einheimischen Gerichten. Alles wird frisch zubereitet und liebevoll serviert. Das Bedienpersonal ist sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Der Seealpsee ist wunderschön! Es ist einer der schönsten Plätze der Schweiz! Um so trauriger ist, dass sämtliche Romantik mit dem Neubau des Gasthaus Forelle zerstört wurde! Der Neubau ist ein riesiger Betonklotz mit einer Terasse, dort wo früher ein urgemütlicher Kiesplatz direkt am See war. Es ist einfach nur Superschade!Sämtliche Personen in meinem Umfeld sind schockiert...ist es doch so ein wunderschöner Ort...
This restaurant was a very rewarding experience after the long way up to the mountain we had to walk. The people were very polite and the view amazing! The way is a bit challenging, if you're not in good physical condition. Firstly the restaurant and then the beauty of the lake made it worth it! I hope to revisit!
Die Forelle bietet regionale Speisen in einer guten Qualität. Die Bärlauchchässpätzle mit Gemüse waren die Wanderung wert. Sehr gut besucht, aber mit etwas Geduld kommt man zu seinem Glück. Preislich ok. Es hat auch hausgemachten Strudel, den man unbedingt probieren sollte.
