Berny's used to be our go to fish'n'chip in the Bay area. The fish is always crispy and delicious and the chips are pretty good too. Normally you have to wait a while for the food but its always so good that it's worth the wait and you can hang out in the park across the road while waiting. However, on the Monday of the October long weekend that all changed. We placed our order and after a very LONG 90 minutes we finally got our food. It was not good. The batter was soggy and fell off the fish and calamari, the potato scallops were inedible and the chips were not great either. Just a few more minutes in the fryer and the food would have been a lot better. The kitchen was obviously overwhelme...
My partner and I got takeaway dinner from this restaurant, as there is no seating available. We ordered Grilled Perch, hot chips, and potato scallops (or potato cakes for some). We decided to eat our meal at the beach and it was a wonderful experience. The fish was fresh and delicious, the potato scallops were cooked perfectly, and the chips were made in a good old-fashioned style. One tip we have is that we ordered 2 single serves of hot chips, but one serve for two people would have been enough as the portions were quite large. Overall, it was a very good takeout seafood meal.
The best fish and chips I’ve had… probably ever. A traditional setup, using fresh produce, made to order (not frozen). It was our first visit, and the food was just amazing. Service was quick, even for a Saturday. As a family we probably tried most of the menu it was all delicious. Calamari was the standout. I should have paid more. There’s not many places like this still operating, certainly not producing such quality food
Great fish and chips highly recommend. The fish was battered perfectly and cooked just right the minimum of chips is generous for $5 and the home made potato cakes excellent. The price is right and matches the quality of takeaway on offer . Forget the rest Benny’s the best!

I went to Bernys last night and couldn’t be happier. It was probably the best fish and chips I have had for a long time. It wasn’t greasy, it was tasty and the calamari was great. I would happily recommend, and will be going again before we head home next week.

The food at this restaurant is delicious and the service is fast and friendly. However, there is way too much salt in the dishes. I had to remove the batter from the seafood in order to reduce the saltiness.
This restaurant experience was terrible! The fries were burnt, the fish was cold and flavorless, and the gravy was watery. I would recommend finding somewhere else to eat. I will not be returning.

Really great food and service. Good fish and trips are hard to come by nowdays but this place is really worth a visit. I travel the coast regularly this is a gem.
