This little bistrot is in a street of very basic eateries and therefore can easily be overlooked. It is well worth the persistence to find it. Prices are not cheap but neither should they be. This gourmet fare not a quick bite prior to rushing off. Just what French cuisine is all about! A vacation experience in itself. The plat du jour is an amazing experience. Trust the owners and go with that. It keeps the price reasonable. The choices are (currently) a 16 or 19 Euros menu of three courses. My choice gave me a fish soup I shall never forget (so creamy and delicious, with accompaniments that enhanced it to perfection) A three fish casserole (which is something I wouldn't have thought to order a la carte and was so glad I had) And dessert of Creme Brulee which had something slightly different about it but was still great. My husband had the alternatives of a salmon salade and the rest was described as heavenly. We will return to St. Brieux, if possible some time, just to eat there!

At the end of August, Saint-Brieuc is pretty dead. Most of the listings here in TripAdvisor were closed. But our B&B host suggested the street "Trois Frères Le Goff" so we checked that out. Hidden among squirrelly looking dive bars and libanese/pizza joints, we found Bistro du Port with its offer of fresh fish and so we went in. Proudly displaying a mark of French quality on each table, the dining room has a hidden charm. The welcome was a little awkward and there were only two other couples seated, but it filled up about halfway by the end of our meal. We had a nice fish soup, cod in lemon butter sauce and a mix of different fish. Perhaps next time we will try one of the lobsters that are in a tank in the middle of the dining area. The fresh fruit salad had a nice hint of ginger in it. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience - an unexpected surprise on this otherwise less than classy street.

Worth taking the trouble to find it. Best using a paper map, especially in the dark. Our satnav turned a five minute drive into 45 minutes of agony. You'll be able to tell from the reviews that Brits are well-catered for here, though it's mostly the French customers eating fish and chips, claimed to be the best in Brittany with reviews to back it up. However, the fish and chip bar is not set very high in France and their other seafood and their excellent steaks may be more your style as they were ours. The first course is priced in with the main and in our case was a very well seasoned mackerel paté which we both enjoyed.I was the only one with room for dessert and had a three dessert sampler which was excellent.

The restaurant was recommended by our hotel. I don't think we would have found it otherwise as it is slightly off centre_ in many ways! The menu is limited but all food is fresh and home cooked. The wine list is varied and reasonably priced. My wife had the best lobster of her life and she is a very fussy eater and a very good cook. The service is personal and attentive. Where else would you have your lobster bib attached personally or be given help with cracking the lobster claws?! Dark, vintage film decor but good, old fashioned French food. American coach parties or English fish n chips families would not appreciate this. It is unique!
