Bistrot Le Descartes

I've been going to the Bistrot Le Descartes for many years, primarily because it's right next to Place de la Contrescarpe, one of my favorite places from the 70's. Le Descartes is nothing special as cafes go, but it has always been a friendly spot where you can settle in for as long as you like with a coffee and croissant and where my French was always acceptable. It's also off the tourist beat - just a local spot.

Visited for lunch while exploring the area. Bisto filled up very quickly on a Friday, all diners seemed to be local. Service qick and helpful. God value menu relative to others in Paris - would recommend the daily specials and the 'toasted' breads.

It's just around the corner from the much livelier bars of La Place Contrascarpe but it's busy and bustling and good for happy hour or a nightcap. There are better places to eat in the area.

Very close to our hotel, we ate a dinner and breakfast here. Fresh and good value meals, nice owner and friendly waiters, most of the other patrons were locals. Would recommend.
