First of all I like this place.I sat for the 1st time on their patio in the back and I think I like it more than the front.Quieter and very cozy.I learned that there are 2 things you should not order here,Previously, the steak special(The steak was tops a 1/4" thick for $40).Now I learned that the sampler platter $32 is not worth it.1 fish cake, 4 very tiny grilled calamari, 4 skewers of lamb 1cm x 1cm(not a typo).The rest is brochette and pita. I ate the bread to fill up. This plate is really not worth it!For $32 I expected more than just bread. I really like the pasta and pizza here and will stick to those.The service was good as always.
This restaurant's web page has a section if one wants to make a reservation. It is not an automated process, rather it requires one to send one's name, email address and message. The problem is that they do not reply to the message. Maybe they don't even bother to read them. Anyway, no reservation. Also lunch patrons beware.....the upstairs dining room is closed for lunch, so if you want to be inside you have to have lunch in the gloomy, dark (and not surprisingly pretty much empty) ground floor room.
A regular destination for special occasions and upscale business dinners the Blacksmith's Bistro offers a compact but varied menu of excellent fare. It is truly a place where you can get 3 good courses - excellent salads, original and tasty mains and wonderful desserts. It has gotten a little expensive in recent days but we keep returning for special occasions to enjoy the cozy ambiance and fine service. Unionville has several fine restaurants but the Bistro is for sure our favorite!
Ate here a few times in the past and thought the food was really great and the service was good also. It is probably the best restaurant on main street, Unionville. However, my last experience was not as good. The food was still good and service ok, just not as good as I remembered. I would have given them a 5 star the first time round. I would still go back as I was happy with the food and service.

6 adults out to dinner, ate on the patio. Ordered pizza and different appetizers, food was delicious cannot complain. The service was awful, it took forever to get menus, drinks, order meals, receive meals and even get the bill. I found the food quiet pricey especially for pizza. The service terrible which made the experience bad and I will probably not eat here again.
We ordered three items to share. The service was friendly, helpful and timely. The quality of the assorted meats (charcuterie), salmon tar tar and beet salads were truly fine. The 'our compliments' to the chef cliche is apropos. We were raving about the presentation and flavour as we ate. Try it.
Friendly staff with terrific food. Oysters are our favorite thing to enjoy. Served with fresh horseradish. Pasta and fish are also delicious. Wonderful patio with sun until 4ish. Nice to have the shade there in the evening when it's hot outside.
Any place on Main St Unionville is going to have a quaint, "oozing with charm" kind of environment, and Blacksmith's Bistro lives up to the expectations.
