Decided to have coffee here based on reviews and general reputation. It's located towards the front of Rouse Hill Town Centre, next to the children's playground. Ideal for families, and beats the Oliver Brown next door hands down on reputation. The decor and vibe are quite distinctive and authentic for a suburban cafe, probably the closest in Rouse Hill Town Centre to those cafes you see in the inner west. Service was friendly, and my order was delivered fairly promptly to my table. They also appear to be quite knowledgeable about their coffee, which is to be expected from a successful independent operator. Besides the usual espresso options, they also offer filter, which appears to be a batch brew made with a high-end Dutch Moccamaster machine. I didn't order it though, so I'm not 100% sure about this (I didn't notice any pourover gear). They also offer cold brew - probably made with an immersion method as I did not notice a drip brewer in the store. Prices for coffee are reasonable, being on the cheaper side for the Centre. With my order however, unfortunately there were a few issues. First, their selection of baked goods at the time was very limited, with only 3-4 options. Probably this was due to being late in the day at 3pm, but it was a little disappointing given that nearby places such as Michel's Patisserie offer more more options all day. I picked the chocolate brownie, which had dried out somewhat during the day and was a bit too brittle and crumbly for my liking. As for my coffee, I ordered an iced long black. Unfortunately, only a single shot of espresso was used (see my uploaded image), which resulted in a too weak drink. I'm not a barista, and I drink filter at home, but my understanding is that long blacks are generally made with two shots. Obviously, this could be easily rectified by ordering an extra shot - and the extra-shot iced long black here would still be cheaper than most nearby coffee shops - but I wasn't aware of this at the time of ordering. I did like the flavour of the coffee, which was smooth and on the slightly bright side. So, for the time being, I will have to give this place a 3/5. I really, really want to rate them higher, since I like independents and overall they seem to know what they are doing regarding their coffee, but there were some issues with this particular experience. I will visit here again at some point - ideally for a meal - I will use that as an opportunity for another review.
