We are so glad we chose this place for our overnight stop for the drive between Wales and Scotland. The original castle was built in the 1300s, and was restored in the 1800s as a mansion. A fire ravaged it in the 1950s, and it was rebuilt into the inn that it is today, incorporating some of the original castle structure. The guest rooms are small, but modern, but the best part of this place so far is the pub. It's a popular spot for the locals, and we found ourselves to be most welcome guests, spending the evening enjoying good food, drink, and company before we turned in for the night. We chose this place simply due to its proximity to the ruins of Birdoswald Roman Fort and the adjacent sections of Hadrian's Wall. We certainly chose well. This will be one of the more memorable evenings of this vacation (our honeymoon). Rooms: 4 Service: 5 Location: 5
