The food at Bluestem was great. Ordering is a bit different in that you can do it all online or through the waitperson. All the food comes out when it is ready, there is no sense of trying to time things, for a traditional dining experience. But, this works well for a casual dining experience with friends. And if you understand that experience going in, it is really fine. Given that the restaurant does not expect or want tipping, I am good with this serving/dining philosophy, especially since the food and drinks were delicious, and when personal service was needed, it was prompt and friendly.
The restaurant has an excellent dining experience in a spacious setting. They still operate on a self-service model, where customers place their own orders using tablets. This process can be time-consuming as it requires multiple clicks for each order. Servers are not permitted to take orders, so everything must be done through the app. I would not recommend this restaurant for a business lunch with a large group, but I would consider returning for a casual or social lunch as the food was delicious.
Ordering online in restaurant was new experience, but staff was helpful. One downside, we never had same wait staff who took order and served food. I think that was the problem as I waited a least 15 minutes to get my meal while my table mates were already served and eating. A big plus: I checked in, but the rest of my party got lost and were late by 25 minutes. Bluestem honored my reservation and a had a table for us despite the crowds.
The ordering is a bit funky because the restaurant is trying something different. Everything is done electronically. That said, the food was outstanding. We had two different baos as appetizers. They were delightful and the avocado sauce was a perfect accompaniment for the bacon,egg,and cheese version. My wife had the duck pesto pasta and declared it her favorite meal on our entire visit to SF! We would highly recommend this place.

The online ordering system is slightly clunky but manageable. Friendâs order wasnât in stock and server offered alternatives, but this caused confusion if we had to place order online or not. Settled on a Baonini and that took an hour to get to table. Only reason to return is ambience and tasty food. Probability to return is low at this point.
The food at this restaurant is incredible and there are no extra charges. The price you see is the price you pay, everything is included such as taxes, fees, and tip. The fixed menu is delicious and perfect for sharing. My only regret is ordering too much, but that's on me!
eating was oily according to our expectations not. the personal was friendly. ambiance dull.

Food was great as was the service. We enjoyed their upstairs outdoor seating area too.
Excellent food and service. Perfect spot for a midday meal or happy hour.
