Our apartment for the week was about 100 mtrs away so this was our local . On our first night (Monday) we arrived at around 10:30 not too hopeful of getting food but it was no problem. El Cid is not a tourist bar but is typical of the majority of spanish bars and brought back memories of a journey through Spain over 20 yrs ago when I had more hair on my head than on my back! Its not about the decor or fancy menus, its all about the people, the atmosphere and the food. Granted there was not much atmosphere on our first night but the food was surprisingly good. Tapas of deep fried baby squid, calamari, patatas bravas and salted prawns between two of us were delicious if a little heavy on the salt. Portions were so generous we couldnt finish everything. Prices were very reasonable. The above along with 2 portions of chicken nuggets and chips, 2 beers, 2 glasses of wine and soft drinks came to around €50. We ate here twice more, second time we had paella which was very good and the cheapest around. The waitress and bar lady recognised us (I 'm fairly sure we were the only tourists) and even knew which wine my wife preferred. They were really helpful and friendly in a genuine, low-key way. We did have a male waiter on the third night and he was not so efficient though to be fair he was rushed off his feet. Like all good local bars the clientele are a reflection of the area. All age groups, types, and backgrounds land here and at weekends in particular the place is jammed. Even if its only for a beer or a glass of wine I recommend you stop by for an hour to watch the world go by. If you have kids there is a large playground and park across the road. Its strange to say but on our second visit we felt at home here.

Called here on our first night for a beer before dinner. Initially wary as it a ‘locals’ bar but everyone was really friendly. Drinks were really cheap, €4.60 for 2 beers and a water. Always busy but always somewhere to sit. It’s right on the roadside so great to sit outside in the evening sun and watch the world go by. We called in every night after that for a drink before dinner and by the end of the week, We felt like locals too. Loved it.

We stopped in to El Cid for a late one on the way back to our apartments enticed by the 3 Spanish guys singing playing guitars in the outdoor seating area. There was a great atmosphere and the barman was a gas character altogether, very good humoured and very witty. We managed to get 4 seats and the last available table and had a very enjoyable time there.

We are not really fans of sports but decided to try the Meson el Cid anyway. Very local fare, but in a good way! We did not have many common words with our waitress but when there is a will, there is a way! My garlic chicken was five stars, juicy and tasty. The roquefort escalope was freshly made and crisp just as it should. We had a good night.
