Decided to spend a few days in the lake district between christmas and new year. Decided against Ambleside and Bowness as preferred somewhere less ‘busy’. Bridge House Hotel feels like a small friendly hotel, like a home away from home. The staff are friendly and personable, but not too friendly as to become unprofessional. Nothing is too much, you just need to ask. We were upgraded on our stay to a superior room, facing the River Rothay. The room was clean, spacious and tidy, with leather , tea and coffee making facilities and also a safe. There was an iron, but no board, but I suspect a quick ask and it would appear. Oh dear, what a shame the Bridge House hotel is no longer the wonderful, fantastic, home from home hotel it once was. Biggest difference is a set menu ! Every night, the same menu! Standard pub fare, nothing great. Had to ask for more vegetables as we were given 2 golf ball sized potatoes between 2,a few carrots and swede which were devoid of all taste, food used to be the hotels forte with a fantastic changing menu every night, like herdwick lamb shank, homemade cottage pie....real treat was guaranteed every night...chef Gary are you still there ? We were resident at the Bridge House Hotel for 8 nights and ate dinner in their restaurant on several occasions. There was always a good selection of starters, followed by a soup or fruit juice course and the main courses were tasty, well presented and served in good sized portions. Desserts are perfectly adequate, although I must admit to nit being a great fan of this course. The menus change daily and there is always a good rage of choices. The prices are perfectly reasonable and won't create a panic when it comes to settling up. The hotel is busy so booking is essential for non-residents
Booked a couple of days via Secret Escapes deal. Room was large, clean and beautifully decorated. Staff very attentative. Wonderful breakfast, ordered the night before. First evening meal was served in the small dinning area which consisted of a lovely presented cold meat and cheese platter. Full evening meals are booked at sister hotel 'The Inn at Grasmere ', a 4 minute walk away. Very busy. Kitchen service was rather slow but food and waiting staff excellent. Definitely recommend this hotel for a short break.

We originally booked a 2-night stay but regretted not booking for longer. The location, in the heart of Grasmere, is ideal with a spacious and secure parking lot. Helen's greeting was warm and informative, and our room was excellent. The breakfast was delicious and the beautiful gardens were a perfect spot to unwind with a cup of tea and a scone, or a cold beer and a good book after a long walk. We couldn't find any faults with this place.
Ordered Vegetarian pasta, pine nuts were burnt, the pasta was bland, olives not even chopped sundried tomatoes looked like a last minute addition. Couldn't have been worse, very dull. Starter had Tomato soup, very thick lumpy. Crème brulee for desert, came with no biscuit or side, again bland, lacked vanilla.
My first visit to the Lakes was made even more special by our stay at this gorgeous hotel. The rooms were exceptional and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We will definitely be staying here again next time we visit the Lakes. Many thanks to JP and the rest of the team.
The rooms and decor in this restaurant were really nice. I especially enjoyed the open kitchen set up for breakfast and there was a great selection on the menu. The staff was friendly as well. I would definitely recommend this place.

Thank s to all the staff , especially Helen , who made us so welcome. I hope we can revisit this amazing hotel again soon. The rooms and beds are so comfortable. Every thing was wonderful.
