In the past we used to visit this bar/restaurant while walking in this wonderful region of France, but now the restaurant is only open for Sunday lunch. It is popular locally and can be busy, so booking is essential. The dining room is situated in the converted byre at the rear of the bar and is entered via the kitchen. The Sunday lunch menu consisted of five courses, charcuterie, entree, main course of slow cooked beef, with the best pomme de terre boulanger I have ever tasted. Followed by cheese and dessert and wine is included. There is just one menu, made up of simple, local dishes and produce. You do need to be hungry, this is a substantial meal, but we loved it. A bonus is that the total cost, for the two of us, was less than 40 euros.Marie Therese and Luke who own the restaurant are wonderfully welcoming and sharing peopleThis is the sort of restaurant that I fell in love with over forty years ago and unfortunately is hard to find today, so many places have been taken over by pizza places. There are a few parking places near the restaurant near the church, and a larger car park a few more yards away.I would point out that while the village Mas de Tence is in the arrondissement of Yssingeaux, it is not close to Yssingeaux, but much closer to Tence and St Bonnet le Froid.
