I wanted to buy my boyfriend a quality ice cream cake for his birthday from a local place rather than from a chain store. I stumbled upon this place on google cause it looked like something I was looking for! I don't live too far from forest park so I didn't mind the drive.From first look, this place is an old school ice cream parlor that started back in 2004. In addition to their handmade ice cream, they also sell custom ice cream cakes, pies, and more. I'm sure this place is popular among family and kids in the community! After dinner, we walked down Madison Street and happened upon the Brown Cow. The ice cream parlor is in an old theater (known as the ‘Lil Theatre) you can see the footprint of the ticket booth in front of the entrance and the projector room windows in the main room. There is a large room in the back for parties and events. The star, of course, is the handmade ice cream. We had the Salted Carmel Spanish Peanut single scoop and the Banana Cream Pie single scoop (my favorite of the two). I also must mention the staff who were friendly and accommodating. We added a chocolate chip cookie, which was amazing! You can tell they baked these themselves today!
First time back in a while and disappointed. First, let me say I'm really glad Brown Cow exists. It's always been a good part of the community and has done a good job hiring and training courteous, friendly employees. I took my family last night for the first time in ages and was disappointed by the ice cream. Two of us ordered the Coconut brownie fudge. While the coconut flavor was decent, each of us only had one tiny chunk of brownie and that's it. It was basically coconut ice cream. And all of us were given scoops that were tiny unfortunately. I'm hoping this was just bad luck, we'll try again sometime.
First time visiting Chicago and we wanted some ice cream! This place did not disappoint. The ice cream was so delicious and creamy. The lady that helped us was so polite and gave us samples to taste. She said all the ingredients are locally sourced. We had coconut fudge brownie, birthday cake, butter pecan, and cookies and cream. Would recommend all flavors!

The Brown Cow is ice cream perfection. Not only does the atmosphere scream ice cream parlor, so does the music. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. There is always something for vegan friends as well. Always a fun time for everyone!
Tonight my prenatal fitness class decided to meet up after class for ice cream Loved the cinnamon ice cream blackberry cheesecake ice cream, and some of the others praised the sea salt chocolate potato chip flavor!
Ice cream is delicious. Even with long lines, they do a great job of getting people in and out. They have a large back room that has tons of seating. It's our favorite ice cream spot!
Love this place. Icream is very creamy and the staff is always great. Love that it is time to open again!
