I have been several time to Auvers sur Oise as a tour guide and for my own enjoyment. I was very pleased about this new ownership on my last visit. In this absolutely gorgeous and charming town where Vincent Van Gogh is buried after having spent the last 70 days of his life, the Café de la Paix not only has a more modern yet inviting new make over but the place also caters great friendliness with young passionate staff. Two major things why you should go there with your friends:1- To have a drink (or two) of the "inFamous absinthe known as the Green Fairy". It is served in the way they used to in the 19th century: Dripping cold water from a table fountain over a piece of sugar that sits on a hollow spoon itself sitting across the top of a glass filled with a shot of absinthe. This subtle refreshing little melange is to die for! It is like returning back in time with Van Gogh and his contemporaries.2- The new owners also reopened the former movie theater at the back of the restaurant for special screening events ran by an association. It is the way it was back in the days here in Auvers sur oise.In conclusion, they give a new life to this restaurant in one of the best feelgood towns near Paris, home of several painters like Van Gogh, d'Aubigny, Cezanne, Pissarro and more.Long life to the Café de la Paix!

We stopped for coffee and a hot chocolate after a tour of Van Gogh's home. The staff was very friendly. The staff was friendly. The restrooms were free and clean. However, the signs on the doors look like they are unisex restrooms. They most definitely were not. My wife started into the one that had urinals and I started into the one with out and didn't see a ladies room sign until I walked through the entrance! Be warned!

Stopped here on our bike ride to the village for a well-earned glass of cold beer. We were met by a very friendly barman who greeted us in English and showed us to our seat. He was happy to give us information about the village made famous by Vincent Van Gogh and served our drinks quickly and with pleasure. Even though we only stayed a short while here we were made to feel very welcome.

The first thing you notice about this place is that it is full of French people enjoying French food. Which means it must be good. We were there for a Sunday lunch and enjoyed a paysanne salad and a hamburger (no bun). Both were excellent. Would definitely eat there again.
