Cafe Des Poternes

We dined at several good restaurant-cafes during our trip, but the only one we visited more than once was Cote Terrasse in the captivating town of Seguret. You can reserve a table for lunch or dinner, or take coffee or a glass of wine or beer while relaxing in the charming courtyard or the terrace bar (located the next street up, with a glorious sunset view of the valley). The dishes we tasted were all delicious and beautifully presented, with generous portions as well. Service was quick and friendly, the atmosphere quiet and unhurried; very much a neighborhood-bistro feel with locals dining next to us. But the reason we returned was the warm and welcoming service we received, from all of the staff but especially from Magali, who we met on our first afternoon coffee and who made us feel right at home from start to finish. Two days later we asked for a dinner table for the same night and, even though they were already fully booked, the maitre d'hotel quickly arranged for an overflow table to be set up for us. It's hard to put into words just how much these hospitable gestures can mean when you've been traveling for a while and are aching for a bit of familiarity and home-feel. And this is what we felt we received, from the front of house to the young man who refilled our water bottle with a smile. We appreciated it all so very much, and will gladly make another trip next time to Seguret just to enjoy another meal at Cote Terrasse!

The situation of this terrace restaurant is hard to beat. It lies under the ramparts of the most picturesque village of Seguret with views across to the vineyards and potentially a nice sunset. It’s accessed by the neat cobbled streets from the car parks below which involves some uneven paving and a slope. The courtyard setting is shady and attractive. After a certain time of the evening there was a problem with flies around the food but this was anticipated and battery operated whizzing devices were provided to each table. In fact the restaurant was well staffed by attentive young people who were very friendly. It’s not fine dining but the menu includes some innovative ideas such as the very rare beef with oriental flavours. The offering relies heavily on salads, pasta and other dishes that can be served relatively speedily and we noticed that tables were resold during the evening. There wasn’t a starter list and price of the main course includes dessert so for two courses it was affordable, especially as wine is available by the glass or carafe. As such it’s a good spot for groups on holiday and pleasant for a casual evening for couples. We’d go again.

Went with friends to explore Seguret. Very friendly helpful staff. Lovely terrace and the weather cooperates in November. Good cocktail before lunch. Excellent food. Plan to return tomorrow

Great value; excellent menu choices; swift service; good location in amongst the narrow and pretty streets. Same owners as the lovely Bastide Bleue which is just outside the village itself

This restaurant has outstanding food and has great service. We went with a group of seven people. The very kind service provided by this restaurant helped to make it a pleasant night!
