Popped into the Cafe Heider on two occasions over 2 days whilst visiting Potsdam. The first occasion was for a coffee and snack (kuchen) and enjoyed the experience and atmosphere of this little restaurant enticing enough to make a return visit the following day. On the second visit we enjoyed a light lunch and some nice refreshments. They have a good selection on the Karte and luckily for us the menu had the festive flavour, duck/goose etc on offer. We had a lovely time and very much enjoyed the food. Would recommend you give it a try.
Spur of the moment lunch choice with good service and old world atmosphere. I had the wiener schnitzel and it was delicious! The veal was very crispy and the potato/cucumber salad creamy and crunchy. Both parties of diners on either side of me were enjoying the same thing. Must be a popular spot for this dish. Fun to watch those who wanted cake approach the display case. Too many choices! I recommend a visit for coffee/kuchen or lunch. Wait staff is comfortable with english and can help decipher the menu.
On advice of locals I went here for a meal and the Wiener Schnitzel was the dish I was told to have, and I did. The Schnitzel was veal, as it should be, and was nice...but not as good as in Vienna. Maybe I am spoiled by having had the original, it surely wasn't bad, and the authentic style and atmosphere was absolutely very nice.
Before we went to the Christmas Market we stopped for hot chocolate and three weakened and had the apple strudel which was excellent especially with the vanilla sauce.I was different and had a local dish their version of meat balls which was also tasty.Try the chilli hot chocolate which has very interesting heat and sweetness

Lovely place for lunch, coffee, dinner or just a beer. The atmosphere is that of an coffee house at 1900. Its lovely. Traditional German food, cakes and drinks. It is easy to find. Walk toward Nauener Tor. There are few more nice places in and around the gate. The Heider is located on the right.
This a place for an easy lunch either inside or outside. In the terrace the service may sometimes be slow but is still nice. A good sign is that also locals tend to eat here. Or have a drink. Prices are affordable and the taste is good, so overall a good experience.
We had looked forward to sampling the famed torte and baked goods, alas there was but one small display. The Cafe has turned into a slightly upscale restaurant. The pastries that we did try were good, but nothing you would not expect from any upscale restaurant.
We went here to enjoy an evening meal but left disappointed. There was not enough staff to start. Our table was not cleaned from the waste of previous guests and no one gave any indication they would be willing to do so. For that reason we left.

That is a cozy place on the one of the main streets, just in front of the tram stop. Nice service and atmosphere. My food didn't impress me a lot. But it might be due to 'traditional and healthy' tag, the food carried :)
On our bike trip from Potsdam to Berlin this was the first stop. They had an offer of pasta with mushrooms for lunch and it was pretty good. Nice place.
