Went all out and ordered a drink - it's my first time having a houjicha latte, but I've consumed houjicha before in the form of Kit Kats and soft serve ???? This houjicha latte was OK - the tea flavour was rather muted for my liking and perhaps not quite smooth enough. It comes unsweetened so you can add brown sugar to your discretion.

The brother or sister of Café Oratnek, this café can be found on Bourke street in Surry Hills. I went mid week so it wasn't too busy and so I was pretty lucky to be visiting on this day. Similar menu to that of Oratnek, it has lovely Japanese inspired dishes and lots of matcha. The popular dish is the katsu sandwich, but having eaten this before, the linguini took my fancy. It was flavoured with natto, okra, shisho, shallot, sesame, nori, soy and topped with a poached egg. It was absolutely delicious. I enjoyed the flavours. Apparently western resto with Japanese twist is currently become a trend in Sydney. I came here after got brunch in Medan Ciak, cause they still on same area, Surry Hills. I ordered matcha french toast, matcha cream puff and hojicha latte. Matcha french toast is good, matcha taste is balance not sweet nor too bitter, it made from brioche instead using regular bread so it's crunchy. Matcha cream puff is average, choux skin not softy. Price wise not really expensive.

I gave it 2 tries. I really wanted it to be good. The mushroom toast was not bad but slightly salty. The pork katsu sandwich was not as juicy as expected, though coffee was pretty good. The poutine was a miss for me. I might return for the their matcha desserts. I hope third time is a charm.
We both chose the signature dish, a pork Katsu sandwich, despite a warning that we would have to wait 15 mins. It was big and meaty, too heavy for me at lunch, but I'd have to admit, delicious. Better to have chosen one Katsu and a lighter dish to share. Great coffee and friendly staff.

Brunch with a Japanese twist! My favourite food on their menu is Katsu sandwich and the Omurice! And their matcha latte is definitely worth a try!
Had a chai and pastry hereI definitely want to come back and try the macha French toast and umami mushroom toast.
