California Rollin' Sushi

I lived in the Carolina's for multiple years and have eaten sushi for years ranging from exotic raw sashimi to traditional rolls. Do not order the sushi here. The sushi selection is extremely small and very limited when it comes to traditional sushi. I ordered the spicy tuna roll, katana roll and the rainbow roll and each one was very warm including the raw sushi, tasted off, and were poorly made. After a quarter of my sushi I noticed my stomach instantly knot, and I began to shiver, and I needed to throw up. I got food poisoning. I was a regular of California Rollin the original in Village Gate. I keep trying this location and I'm always disappointed. After waiting 20 minutes I went and asked the hostess if we could get a server. Finally a server came over and apologized for the wait and said they're totally disorganized there. ???? It seems like the focus of this restaurant is to be a bar and not a sushi restaurant. Over an hour in total before our food arrived from the time we got there, and I had 2 small kids with me. So it was disappointing. The food was also shocking.. the Volcano roll was bland, the kids avocado rolls were messy, the sweet-and-sour chicken was okay... We were served water in plastic to go cups...

Worst sushi place ever, they should be ashamed for even attempting to make any sushi. Sushi chef cooks look like high school graduates and server don 't even know the menu. The rainbow roll was a disgrace to even have it on the menu. They don 't know what a dragon roll is which every Japanese restaurant has in their menu, guess this wasn 't a Japanese restaurant. My fault for even trying this place out. The original owner knew what he was doing, who ever owns it now have no clue what sushi is and have non experience cooks making sushi is terrible, every fish especially tuna and salmon look like they were bought at Wegman 's. The food and drinks here are excellent. You really have to try the different types of sushi and pair them with your drinks—you won't be disappointed! One of my favorite things is that you can enjoy dining outside at the bar or at the tables. There’s also live music, but make sure to check the schedule for performance times. This is the best sushi I've ever had! My daughter ordered the Philadelphia roll with salmon, while I opted for a spicy tempura shrimp roll with coconut. Both were absolutely fabulous. My partner had the fried fish, which was a large, thick piece with a fantastic crunchy crust. The service was excellent as well. I highly recommend this place! It has a beautiful location at Charlotte Pier by Lake Ontario.

Nice food, but TERRIBLE service. Where was our waitress Hannah? Where were the missing items? Where was the bill? Right, the group next to us was confused about their food too. We even cleaned the table and piled all the plates. Where was Hannah again, we didn?t know, we had to bother other employees to find her. She is nice girl but really doesn?t know how to do her job.

The food and drinks are very good here. You have to try the different varieties of sushi and pair it with their drinks, trust me you won't be disappointed. The best part I like is when you can eat outdoors at the bar or at the tables. There is also live music but check and see what times they play. The staff is super nice and will answer any questions about their menu.

Best sushi I ever had. My daughter got the Philadelphia Roll with salmon and I got a spicy tempura shrimp roll with coconut. Just fabulous. My husband got the Fish Fry which was a huge and thick piece of fish breaded with an awesome crunchy crust. The fries were also great. Highly recommend! we had such a wonderful experience last night in california rollin! the food was great, the atmosphere was so beautiful and our waitress was excellent! Hannah and the team made such a great job, a birthday party to a wonderful night with great food and wonderful memories. thanks to many, and especially thanks to him, we will come back soon!

The atmosphere was wonderful. I encountered an issue with the point-of-sale system, but the bartender kindly offered me a coke. The music was excellent, and the Valerie Tempura was outstanding!
