This place is hard to find. You twist and turn along a single track road from Champéry for what seems like ages, climbing steeply then descending to the stunning Barme valley underneath the massive Dents Blanches. This is a hidden paradise of wonderful walking, but when you have earned a great meal, this refuge with rooms serves fabulous food. We ate lunch on the terrace in brilliant sunshine under parasols and it was perfect. Dole Blanc (a Valais white wine blushed red) was lovely, the plat du jour of lamb gigot with chanterelles mushroom risotto was sublime. This is one of those holiday moments that just worked.
