The outdoor setup at this restaurant is very relaxed and spacious. The canopies provide additional shade during the hot summer months, and there is a pontoon boat converted into a music stage for bands to perform outside, right next to the water at the entrance of the Birdland Marina. The indoor bar is small, but with ample space outside, it doesn't really matter. They offer a full bar with a good selection of domestic beers and regional microbrews. I will definitely return for other bands or events, as it is a unique and cool place to hang out, especially with its waterfront location. Both times I went to Roy 's, I felt like I was treated rudely (2022 2023). I asked if there were boats to rent or maybe a river cruise I could take for my wife me their response was short , somewhat rude , and they told me they never heard of such a thing. I told them I had seen pontoon boats on the Des Moines River right in front of their restaurant and the fact that people told me there were river trips available. Add to this last summer, I went wave running for the 1st time in my life on the Des Moines River. And some guy came out from Capt Roys yelled at us for going too fast. The bar was fantastic but quite small! We attended an event and it was very crowded with a long line for drinks. The food took 45 minutes to arrive but it was worth the wait. The chicken nachos were the best I have ever had. The event was enjoyable, but it would have been better with more servers to reduce the wait time for food and drinks. The location was lovely, sitting on the dock and looking out at the water was amazing!

Capt Roy’s is my go to place when cycling or driving. Great food in a comfortable atmosphere. The best trivia in town, with format that doesn’t allow internet look-ups. I enjoyed the live band at the restaurant tonight. However, I was not impressed with the nachos. The drinks were refreshing on a warm summer evening. I am unsure if I will return in the future.

The food is delicious and reasonably priced. This was my first visit, but I will definitely be returning soon for more of their amazing Italian beef sandwiches.

Went on a bike ride on a beautiful day and stumbled upon a restaurant playing Irish folk music with a lively crowd. It was fantastic!
