Arrived for dinner to be pleasantly surprised that kids eat free Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Went to the counter to order was was greated by the most lovely staff member who was courteous, welcoming and professional. The restaurant was nearly full but we received our garlic pizza within 10 minutes of ordering. The kids meals came next and I was very impressed that the staff had taken the initiative not to serve small children food hot enough to burn them. The chips and salad were fine, but the parmigiana couldn't be eaten. It smelled and tasted like the chicken was off. Seriously, you know the smell of raw chicken that has been left in the sun for several days? That's what it was, only they'd baked it with cheese and sauce on top. I would've loved to have let the staff know in person so maybe they could've done something about it, but they were so busy that our table still wasn't cleared even after we'd been in the gaming area for 20 minutes... Having said that, my friend's chicken was just fine. So I would like to think this was just a one-off, but seriously, that's a hell of a disappointment. Definitely put me off coming back again.
The meals at the Carlyle Hotel Bistro are huge with a great selection of popular meals. I tried the risotto the first night and enjoyed it so much that ordered the same again on my second visit. On the third night the grilled pork chops on the specials board looked interesting but I wasn't prepared for the huge meal that arrived. 2 huge chops with a tasty glaze, steak cut style chips and garden salad covered the oval plate. The chops were absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly, a fitting last meal for my stay at this hotel. No wonder you can't get a table here on the weekend unless you pre-book it.
Ordered the curried scallops. I was served about 7 scallops in a bland watery soup. At the bottom of the bowl was a hard bed of rice, firmly stuck together. Vegetables were bland. The peas appeared to be rehydrated. Kids meal was also bland and overpriced. Customer service was generally friendly, but they refused to doggy bag the children's meal. For the amount they charge, there are much better dining and countermeal options around town. I will not be going back again.

The Tassie scallops are among the best in Hobart, huge and plentyful and the chips are very nice. Awesome value for money. The crispy port belly was OMG to die for and huge, never had such a beautiful perfect big piece of crackling ever and the pork melted in the mouth a top potatoe mash. A good range of food, friendly service and clean and large venue.
Friendly and efficient staff at this 'pub grub' establishment. A group of colleagues went there for lunch after a hard morning's work and we could not eat all of the large meals. Smaller serves at a bit lower price would be our vote. The food was as we would expect from a large hotel dining room - adequate and well presented.
Terrible terrible food, Samon was raw cold swapped it for chicken parmy with vegetables came out with chips surprise surprise was a thin schnitzel with a layer of sauce smothered in cheese is was by far the worst meal I've eaten I couldn't eat it,...I prefer the club
came here to dinner to open them, not book as it was a Sunday night. a good choice for the senior meal with an extra you can add on a dessert or garlic brot. waiting time for ordering and serving was good,...portion size and prices appropriate.

great selection and good prices for a Sunday dinner, had the kalbs parmigiana, which was fantastic for the staff was friendly and the waiting period was a little longer than expected, but overall it was good.
I visited this restaurant on a bustling Saturday night and while my meal may not have been typical, it was still delicious. The atmosphere was vibrant and the staff were welcoming.
