Have been ordering takeaways from Cathay Royale for a good few years now and have never had cause to write a bad review until this last time. I ordered the Chicken in a Creamy Sauce and it’s usually a lovely creamy colour with succulent pieces of chicken. However on this occasion the sauce (for what there was) was a reddish brownish colour and the chicken seemed to have been prepared from scraps. I’m hoping this has just been a one off thing and not a permanent change to this dish, because if that is the case I won’t be ordering from them again. Management please take note.
A few months ago I had cause to submit a poor review owing to the very disappointing takeaway we received, but I’m delighted to be able to update this after taking the chance to try the chicken in a creamy sauce again. The ones we had last night were delicious! Chicken done to perfection and the sauce was lovely and creamy with just the right amount of seasoning. It was well worth the wait. The chap did tell me it could take up to 1 hr 45 mins and it came in about 1hr 15 mins. Some things are worth waiting for.
2 course lunch £6.50, pint of cider £3.50, excellent value and tasty. Its popularity can be measured by the number of people there at lunchtime in a street full of eateries. Note that they only accept cash for payment no cards accepted at all!!!
I was very pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. The food was delicious and everything we ordered was fantastic! I will definitely be ordering from here again soon now that I've found a great Chinese restaurant. Thank you.

We were thrilled to hear that Cathay Royale had reopened after lockdown. We had really missed one of our favorite takeout spots. The service was quick and the delivery was reasonably timed, making it well worth the wait.
Ordered salt and chilli chicken and a chicken satay from here. Chicken cooked to perfection moist and definitely not dry Quality of the food was exceptional and we will definitely be back.
I haven't been to this restaurant in years, but I was impressed with the friendly staff and delicious food. I will definitely keep it in mind for my next visit to the area.
Visited here today during the lunchtime offer. Quite a few in which is a good sign! Service very good. Food nice. Good options on the lunch menu at a very good price

Quite simply the best Chinese restaurant around. Best food, super staff, lovely ambience. All round satisfaction.
Best satay you will find anywhere in Britain, great staff and fantastic service. My home from holiday must have.
