Whilst the food was entirely dreadful, this was by no means the worst part of our experience. Unfortunately, my family and i had the misfortune to visit this absolute horror of a restaurant. Firstly, my 8yr old's pizza was bought out a good 15 minutes before my eldest's, and my and my husband's meals. At first, we assumed that our meals would be following shortly so we made our youngest wait for us, but after a good 10 minutes, we had to let him eat as his pizza had gone cold. Run by an English guy and delightfully set on the banks of the Dordogne river at the southern end of Souillac, the Chapeau Melon sets out to tick a lot of boxes, and nods in the direction of the many Brits who pass through by including items such as Steak and Guinness Pie- didn't try that but others said it was great. Booked the day before and we took a menu away so I could liaise with our group and get back to them with our choices.Chef was more than accommodating with nibbles on the tables, creating starters asked for that weren't on the menu and cooking food to perfection.Staff were friendly and looked after All our party with great care and attention.Very reasonably priced children's menu only €7 for 2 courses and drink. A lovely 3 course meal for 18.50 euros each, with prompt, but not too fast service and an uninterrupted view of the river. House white wine so good, a second pitcher was ordered. Cannot understand why on a French public holiday weekend it wasn't packed. Situated a little way out of town, but within easy waking distance of the campsite, well worth searching for if in Souillac

An ordinary environment with some pleasant views over the Dordogne. Food was awful. Starter included undercooked meat (raw in places). Three steaks and trout for mains - very poor quality ingredients and cheap cuts of beef. Everything was incredibly salty! We left half way through main course. A thoroughly miserable evening. I could not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Surprised to find this place - a bit out of the way (though well signed) on the banks of the Dordogne. Seemed to be run by an Englishman and our waiter was also English but there were French people eating as well. Nice to have a break from trying to speak French! A good place for lunch.
Went here for spot of lunch amazing and Bryan and his staff looked after us brilliantly despite our lack of French we had the magret which was very nicely cooked with pate starter. Supplied water which is what I was looking to drink anyway superb.
Beef and guiness pie to die for. Excellent trout fillet and very generous tasty toppings on the pizzas. The food complimented an great evening. Thanks.

I went to dis place I loved it more then my mummy and I liked to eat bananas and the owner was so damn hot I loved her ear lobe I would eat here again
The boundless creativity of the French could scarcely be more evident than at this fine-dining establishment.
